Hi Listers,
Is there anyone out there with considerable experience in generating contours from XYZ point files? If so, could you please contact me?
I have successfully generated some contours using the 'Features_to_Raster' and 'Contour' commands, but would like to know how to maximize this process. I am specifically interested in the following:
1). My input source dataset has the following parameters:
*LIDAR point data (converted to Shapefile format)
*Posting interval: 1m
*Vertical accuracy: 0.15m
*Horizontal accuracy: 0.45m
I would like to know how to figure out the densest contour interval I can accurately generate from this?
2). Upon using the 'Features_to_Raster' and 'Contour' commands in Spatial Analyst 9.1, the user is required to complete each of the following properties:
*Output Cell Size (upon converting the Shapefile points to a Grid): What exactly is this? Why does SA 9.1 generate a default value? How can a user find out how to maximize this property?
*Contour Interval: This seems to be straightforward, referring to the interval the user would like to generate.
*Base Contour: Any idea what this is referring to?
*Z Factor: Any idea what this is specifically referring to in regards to the Z (elevation) value? How will/does this effect the resulting contour?
3). Finally, how can a user find out what algorithm(s) is being used in each of these modeling processes ('Feature_to_Raster' and 'Contour')?
Thanks very much for any knowledge you can offer,
Travis
