Subject: Re: [gislist] 9.2
Date:  12/13/2006 12:50:00 PM
From:  David Lamb

I upgraded the other day. I haven't had any major problems or come
across any major bugs. It saves to a new version of mxd's, but you can
save back to 9.0/9.1. The geodatabases are a new version too. You can
keep your 9.1 geodatabases as 9.1 or upgrade them, but you can't go back
again. I've had problems with batch project, and I'm not sure what's
causing it. Although, now you can right click on any tool in the
toolbox to get batch functionality. I like that you can now zoom in and
out with the scroll wheel, and you can use the scroll wheel in the VBA
editor. I also did the tutorial on Representations. That looks like it
will be pretty useful, clearly they are trying to add some of the
functionality of a graphics package like Illustrator.

If you do any programming, they've added some handy templates that work
with Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition (installed separately). But some
of the .net assemblies seem to have changed, so you'll need to go back
through your code to get the programs to work with the latest version,
and I suspect that 9.2 customizations will not be backwards compatible.

Just what I've come across so far,
David

Larry,

We've upgraded. It was about average as far as time spent uninstalling
old versions and then installing new versions. That takes about an
hour. After installing 9.2, some of us had real performance issues.
Defragmenting the hard drive helped that issue. One of my scripts seems
to have ceased to work since the upgrade. We also upgraded to the new
File Geodatabase. We have not seen any improvements over the personal
GeoDatabase. If anything, it is slower. I'd like to know of others'
experience with the File Geodatabase.

Other than that, it runs just like 9.1 did.

Lawrence

Anyone upgraded yet? Is it troublesome?
Any feedback?
