Create a new data frame in your project for each layout you want (Insert >> Data Frames). You need to add the shapefiles to the data frame that you want displayed in that layout (even if they are the same shapefiles). To switch between data frames, right click on the data frame (where the default is an icon of 3 yellow squares and the name 'Layers') and select activate. When you are in layout view, it should automatically create a space for each data frame. There is a bit of fiddling to do (as ever!) but that's the way to get multiple inserts in the same overall map. Hope this helps :) Louisa

Hi Listers,
Is there a way to create multiple layouts using just one ArcMap document? In other words, I would like to create a single master layout view, and then, additionally have several more layouts (i.e. Layout2, Layout3, Layout4, etc...) displaying "zoomed-view" enlargements from the master view/layout: within the same ArcMap document (.MXD).
Any ideas? This seems like it should be a no-brainer option. This way, if you have dozens of map layouts, and you make an edit/change to the master view, you would have the option of automatically updating all of the associated layouts. I know there are CAD applications that already have this functionality.
Thanks,
Travis
