Subject: Re: [gislist] topic change - morals article

I'm sure GIS plays a role in this. In a

I think a lot of people in a lot of fields have this problem. It
manifests itself in so many ways - anytime someone sees something at
work they percieve to be ethically wrong. An assignment with negative
consequences, labor violations, the knowledge that your company can't
deliver what it promises. In the case of gerrymandering, I am sure
there are people who will argue that it is both ethical and helpful
for the situation at hand. It is a much thornier question when no
actual laws were broken.

If I am opposed to War, it is ethical of me to go work for Raytheon?
As an imagery analyst? As a receptionist? Am I then obligated to
become the internal watchdog? Or, having known what I was getting
into, am I ethically responsible to give my employer their money's
worth? And what is my ethical responsiblity towards feeding my
family vs. risking my job in the name of a greater good?

Geez I hope you weren't hoping for actual ANSWERS to your questions. :)
