Subject: Re: [gislist] AutoCAD questions
Date:  02/05/2007 04:05:00 PM
From:  Tripp Corbin

There are many programs that will open AutoCAD drawings. Here are a few:
AutoCAD (open, create, edit)
AutoCAD LT (open, create, edit)
Autodesk Map (open, create, edit)
TurboCAD (open, create, edit)
IntelliCAD (open, create, edit)
Microstation (open, create, edit)
ArcGIS (open, query, convert)
ArcExplorer (open)
Autodesk TrueView (open)

If you search on AutoCAD DWG you will find a lot more. Since Autodesk
changes the DWG format every couple of years, if the drawing you have
was created with the newest version of AutoCAD (2007) then you might
have some problems opening it with a 3rd Party App.

Subject: [gislist] AutoCAD questions

Do programs exist that will open AutoCAD files. For example, I want to
take an existing architectural design built with AutoCAD, open it and
then add the landscape architecture to it (plants and structure). Is
AutoCAD so proprietary that I need AutoCAD?
