Subject: Re: [gislist] Multiple shapefile average
Date:  09/21/2007 02:55:00 PM
From:  Pat Waggaman

Jesse, not seeing any answers come through, I=B4ll throw out a $245 solutio=
n.

Buy a copy of Manifold V 8. Create a map, import =

all the.shp files. (If there=B4s really a lot of =

files, you may want a 64 byte CPU, and the 64 =

byte Manifold edition for - as I recollect - $50 additional.)

File import can be scripted or done directly =

through the GUI. The attributes will be imported =

into separate DB fields for each layer =

corresponding to a .shp drawing. The Touch =

function can be used through a scripted function =

either to search for overlaps or select =

overlapping objects based upon a series of =

designated points or areas: or with the Spatial =

Overlay in the GUI you can sequentially go =

through your areas of interest (AOIs) and select =

all touching layers. In either case the =

particular DB fields that interest you can be =

configured to create standard statistical COUNT, =

MEDIAN, MEAN etc analysis of the spatially =

determined overlaps in a new drawing.

If you want to push it a bit further that =

statistical analysis can then be copy / pasted =

into EXCEL for the crunching the number of =

touching areas as a percentage of the whole.

Works for fish catches over time. The graphic =

Touch analysis can exported to the Web inputting =

additional layers as they come in: or with a bit =

more serious programming allowing Web users to =

input their own points (or areas) of interest.

Cheers,

Pat
