COSI Management Geeking Out

I am a proclaimed Geek. No apologies.

With one of my degrees in Physics I watch Big Bang Theory faithfully and say "those are my peeps!"

Can't say the same for some of the talented members who make up the diversity of our Vice Presidents helping support COSI's team. They love and are dedicated to COSI, but I don't think any of them ever got excited and built their own stereo or mess around at home with Robot kits.

September 19th Preschool Outreach: Build It!

On September 19th, during the Preschool Outreach, Build It, children had the opportunity to inquire about building and construction. They measured and compared attributes of objects such as length or weight.  Children explored shapes, including their relative positions and the idea that smaller shapes can be put together to build something larger. Additionally, children practiced counting and cardinality. Let's take a look at  their exploration.

Preschool Outreach: Cycle of Seasons

During today's preschool outreach, Cycle of Seasons, children had the opportunity to take part in hands-on activities to discover about changes that may occur during the different seasons. Altogether we discussed what the word "seasons" means and how seasons never end; they keep going. As the seasons change from one to the next, we notice that the weather changes and that we may have to wear warmer or cooler clothes.

We explored the book, Sky Tree by Thomas Locker and Candace Chrristiansen, that illustrates and describes how a tree changes throughout the year as the seasons change. The tree's leaves change colors, fall off, and grow back. We furthered our exploration with leaves.

Frogs for Toddlers!

Today, at a Frog themed Toddler Outreach in Powell, children had a blast exploring about frogs. They met two real African clawed frogs and used magnifying lenses to zoom in close to examine a frog's body. Children saw that the frogs had some of the same body parts that we do--hands and fingers, feet and toes, a head, and eyes. They noticed that the frog's eyes are very big and on the top of their heads. They enjoyed observing how the frogs would sit very still and then all of the sudden move their arms and legs to swim around their aquarium.
