Fun Weekend in Maker Programs

This weekend Leanna and I did stitch projects! We made light up patches! Kids could make whatever they wanted that would light up and then attach to a bag, shirt or whatever they wanted. people really seemed to enjoy the creative aspect and learn a lot about circuit work in the process.  Our second day we sewed pillows! We were nervous that people wouldn't like it, but it ended up being a huge hit!

Sewing is a Great Skill to Have! (Maker Programs)

Today was awesome! We had guests sew pillows/plushies. I was worried that people weren't going to have any fun with it since we didn't have an electronic aspect or something that blinked or lit up. Turns out a lot of people enjoy making pillows! Adults and kids alike were having fun.

Light-Up Patches in Maker Programs

Today we made Light-up patches! We had a great turnout of 26 people and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I was helping very young kids try to understand how a battery works, we talked about what an LED is and what LED stands for, and the kid that I spent the most time talking with about this seemed to understand it pretty well! (He might have been 7 or 8 years old) The adults seemed to enjoy the project too.

Squishy Circuits

Today we had low attendance! I sat and worked with only about 8 kids total, but it was still fun. We made squishy circuits. I had them pick out their favorite color of play-doh and we molded it into a creation that we could light up with LEDs. The kids were all very impressed with this and even more excited that they got to take everything home with them.

Maker Programs in Big Kidlab Today

Today was great! I had the most attendance that I've ever had in LKS. At least 20 kids! We made a few paper flashlights but mostly made origami/paper animal puppets that light up. The kids were being very creative and having fun.
