Step into a Farmer’s Shoes

Farm Days: Little Seeds, Big Tractors kicked off with a bang on its first day! Our front entrance was completely taken over by the excitement of visitors as they got the chance to explore the insides of massive farming equipment and learn about the process of raising crops and livestock. Among some of our various activities included milking a fiberglass cow, making your own seed necklace and observing a trapped swarm of bees. Though there were many activities to choose from, it seemed as if no one could resist watching the hatching of baby chicks.

Don't Miss the Maker Corps Extravaganza August 16th, 17th, and 18th!

This weekend for the Maker Corps at COSI we made some crazy LED light paintings, some funky brushbot creatures, and taught kids how to make their first 3D models.

It always amazes me when I talk to a child or parent who does not know about 3D printing. I show them the cool things we've already printed with COSI's 3D printer and they just cannot believe that there are machines that can make real, 3-Dimensional objects. I've been trying to print a model of a Hammerhead Shark's skull all weekend, but both attempts have failed thus far. I guess we'll just have to try next week!

LED Light Painting

Today was so fun!! We did LED painting. We had the guests make a simple circuit with LED's and coin batteries, then we used a long exposure camera to allow them to "paint" an image in the air with their LEDs.

Brush Bots/Art Bots in Maker Programs

Today we made brush bots (that doubled as art bots). The guests built their brush bots and were very creative with the supplies we gave them. After they made their bots we offered to let them paint the bots or dip them in paint and let them run over a big piece of white paper.

Brush Bots Day Two! (Maker Program)

Today in Little Kidspace we made brush bots again! We had a lot more attendance today than we did yesterday for it. Around 16 kids! They all seemed to enjoy themselves and Elaine was able to get some good feedback from them.
