Exploring Building and Construction

On November 26th, Ms. Erin Decamella’s preschool classroom at East Columbus Elementary acted as construction workers during the preschool outreach program, 3,2,1…Build It. Children put on construction vests, picked out tools to use, measured, and worked together and side-by-side during this class. Take a look.

All Aboard! No Details Spared in Model Railroad Weekend Displays!

COSI has Model Railroad Weekend through Sunday! While it was setting up, I got a chance to peek in at the progress and find out more about the special event. We have three very interesting railroad clubs with us for the weekend, The Columbus Garden Railway Society, The Central Ohio O-Scale Engineers and the Central Ohio S Gaugers. Along with those clubs, Operation Lifesaver is here and the Columbus Historical Society (which is housed here in COSI) put together a great display talking about the history of the railroad here in Columbus.

Recapping our Four Week Preschool Workshop Series: Science of Performing Arts

This fall our preschool workshop guests participated in a four week series titled the Science of Performing Arts. Using music, dance, and dramatic expression the child and adult participant combo investigated the states of matter and related that exploration to the performing arts. We explored big ideas such as:
  • I can learn about science through kinesthetic experiences using music, dance and drama. Science learning can be an active experience!
  • I can use the performing arts to make connections to learning about the phases of matter i.e. solids, liquids, and gases.
  • With modeling and support I can explore the properties of objects and materials.
  • I can use imagination and creativity to interact with objects and materials. I can engage in inventive social play.
