Amy Koogler's students love science. The Highland Elementary School teacher wasn't about to let financial challenges stop her from bringing her 300 students to COSI on a field trip this spring. Amy used a website called donorschoose.org to raise more than $1,000 from eleven donors, including Disney, to make her school's field trip possible.
The COSI Team spends a lot of time figuring out ways to get kids into our building, but COSI After Dark is all about COSI *without* kids. After a hiatus of several years, COSI After Dark made a triumphant return on the night of Thursday, April 2.
There's just one statewide gathering in Ohio each year that welcomes professionals from every kind of museum in the Buckeye State: it's the annual conference of the Ohio Museums Association (OMA). Last month, 100 representatives from Ohio museums gathered in Sandusky, Ohio for OMA's annual get-together, to exchange ideas, to network, and to be inspired by our friends' successes. OMA's membership includes professional staffers and dedicated volunteers from art, history, and science museums, nature centers, historic homes, arboretums, aquariums, zoos, and other cultural institutions.
A partnership between a science museum and a grocery store might not seem a likely pairing, but Whole Foods Market and COSI made for a great combination last Thursday. Whole Foods Market's Dublin location, a groundswell supporter of COSI's new WATER exhibition, welcomed COSI Team Members with our Science Spot traveling science kiosks for a special in-store appearance, and amazingly, donated 5% of the day's sales proceeds to COSI. That came to an amazing total of $4,937.90 that will be contributed to our mission.
