RTSe launches 'Route WAP' application
APR 7, 2000 - RTSe, one of Europe's leading Internet, networking and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)
experts has today announced the launch of 'Route WAP' an innovative wireless solution that provides interactive routing and directions
to end users, using WAP enabled devices.
Based on the company's recently launched 'Outlook Bridge' for WAP, RTSe has developed this new service by integrated ESRI's
mapping software and making it compatible for wireless applications. This allows users of the new service to not only locate contact
details through Microsoft Outlook, but also receive detailed directions to individual contact addresses, all at the press of a button.
This new technology has been designed by integrating products and approaches that are recognised as industry standards. In this case,
ESRI's Route Map IMS technology, Microsoft Outlook and the WAP protocol have been combined to create a highly attractive
solution which will not tax users' systems on implementation.
Charlie Macgruder, product manager for ESRI's Route Map said; "By combining our ESRI routing and mapping capabilities so that it
can be easily accessed via phone, RTSe is addressing the real world problems faced by consumers and business people trying to find
easier ways to deal with their increasingly complex lives.
"We are excited to have RTSe as a business partner and enjoy working with them as they advance GIS technology to digital phones
and other technologies," he added.
'Route WAP' provides easy to use features that let users select contact and address information from an intuitive menu system and
then generates turn-by-turn driving directions to a destination point which is displayed on a WAP device. As 'Route WAP' is
integrated into RTSe's Outlook Bridge, users can simply select defined contact information that is stored on a Microsoft Exchange
Server, simplifying the data entry process, which is often a challenge for WAP enabled applications.
Brendan Yam, Principal WAP Consultant at RTSe concluded: "Route WAP is ideal for delivery of information and for workers that
spend time travelling and visiting customer sites. Because Route WAP taps into a core business application, Microsoft Outlook, used
by thousands of medium to large scale business, the installation of this tool for use will require little customization".
