Trimble Invests in Wireless Data Solutions Company, Data on Air, Inc.
Companies to Offer Wireless Location Services via the Internet

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 5, 2000 -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that it has made a minority equity investment in Orlando-based Data on Air, Inc., a privately held advanced wireless data solutions company. Trimble also entered into a strategic marketing agreement with Data on Air. This agreement is intended to allow Trimble to enter into Internet-enabled fleet management applications and become a full-service provider of wireless location services for the mobile work place.

Under this strategic marketing agreement, Trimble and Data on Air will team to create new capabilities for Internet-based mobile asset management and other applications through the integration of GPS, wireless communications, applications software, Web-hosting and 24-hour customer service. Web-based fleet and asset management capabilities from Data on Air combined with Trimble's in-vehicle device technology will be the basis for an entirely new monthly subscription service that will be sold through Trimble's worldwide distribution channel and through Data on Air's wireless carrier sales channel.

Fleet operators are becoming increasingly aware of the advantages of utilizing Internet-based location services to improve profitability and productivity. Operators can locate mobile assets, optimize usage, check maintenance schedules, prevent theft and recover assets, verify delivery as well as ensure driver safety and contract compliance.

"Trimble's leadership in GPS solutions, in particular their expertise in mobile asset management, opens up several new markets that the two companies can address very effectively," said Dean Fresonke, president of Data on Air. "Much of the fleet and asset management market, even though extremely large, has been highly fragmented because of the many individualistic requirements of the mid-sized fleet owner. With the two companies' combined strengths, we will be able to provide a one-stop shop for a wide variety of location services."

"We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Data on Air. They are the bridge between the Internet and the wireless network," said Steven W. Berglund, president and CEO of Trimble. "This investment is important for several reasons. Trimble's strategy is to assemble complementary partners and technology for delivery of position-centric information. Delivering information via the Internet is the next step in adding value to our customers. This investment lays the foundation for future generations of location-aware and Web-enabled solutions on many mobile platforms, in both our existing and future markets."
