HP Announces Enhancements to HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD Wide-format PrinterPALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 22, 2000 - New Windows Driver Boosts the Total Windows Processing Speed of the HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD PrinterHewlett-Packard Company, worldwide leader in large-format-printer sales, today announced an updated version of its HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer, designed especially for Computer Aided Design (CAD) customers, such as architects, engineers and GIS professionals. Now more than ever, HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer customers can benefit from an affordable, high-performance printing solution. HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer -- New Features The enhanced HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer now includes a new Windows(R) driver that allows easy and high-quality printing of Windows applications. With the new Windows driver, the HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer can process and print Windows applications up to six times faster than before. The Windows driver is available today, free of charge, on the HP Web site http://www.hp.com/go/designjet/ for current HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer customers and HP resellers who would like to upgrade their printers. The HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer with the new Windows driver is expected to begin shipping on Feb. 25 for an estimated U.S. street price of $1,450(1). In addition, HP has developed a new firmware version of the HP-GL/2 and RTL standard for seamless HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer integration. With this new version of the HP-GL/2 firmware, third-party applications -- including those from software vendors such as CoCreate, Dassault, Intergraph, Bentley, Er Mapper, SmallWorld, SolidWorks, ZEH, and Parametric Technologies -- can support the HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer. About the HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD Printer The HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer enables CAD customers to produce in-house, full-bleed output from 4 inches x 6 inches up to 11 inches x 13 inches -- ideal for final quality line drawings, renderings, handouts and presentations. CAD users also are able to produce fast checkprints, allowing them to increase productivity and check draft designs on paper. This high-performance printer is capable of both processing and printing an 11-inch x 17-inch color line drawing in "fast" mode in 15 seconds on plain paper, an 11-inch x 17-inch color line drawing in "normal" mode in 1.5 minutes, and an 11-inch x 17-inch image in "best" mode in 9 minutes on glossy paper. The printer provides true 600 x 600 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution for accurate black and color line drawings and clear, sharp renderings. The printer incorporates HP's modular ink system, including four individually contained, high-capacity ink cartridges and four individual long-life printheads. A total of 304 nozzles per printhead allows more ink to be laid down in a single pass. The built-in smart chips automatically monitor performance and ink usage and notify the user when a cartridge or printhead needs to be replaced.
