MacDonald Dettwiler Systems Help Create Safer Flight Plan for Pilots
February 23, 2000 - Richmond, B.C - MacDonald Dettwiler is proud to announce another significant milestone in the ongoing development of the PEGASUS-AIS * product. The Internet Pilot Planning Center (IPPC) of the Norwegian Aeronautical Information System (NAIS) has just completed its final functional site acceptance tests with the Norwegian Air Traffic & Airport Management and will now enter an operational validation period. This achievement represents the world's first real-time Internet Briefing Service for pilots.

As an integral part of PEGASUS-AIS *, the IPPC makes pilots more efficient by enabling retrieval of integrated preflight bulletins from the pilot's office or home through the Internet, countrywide intra-nets and wide area networks.

Key information provided includes airport status, navigational aids, snow & storm warnings, and regional observation reports. In effect, this system provides pilots with tailored information that enhances pre-flight planning, which improves the level of safety offered to all air passengers. MacDonald Dettwiler President & CEO, Daniel Friedmann, says, "The IPPC milestone is a significant step forward in the aviation market and is another example of our focus on the development of Internet delivery systems."

This focus is supported by a significant trend in the aviation industry that is resulting in the commercialization of control and management service provisioning. PEGASUS-AIS*, has 9 years of cumulative field operation and installations are currently functioning in Norway, Belgium, Malaysia, and Australia.
