Czech Republic Blazes Path to E-Government
with Informix; Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade Provides Citizens
and Businesses with Internet Access to Information with Informix
i.Reach
MENLO PARK, Calif., July 31, 2000--Informix(R)
Corporation (Nasdaq:IFMX), the technology leader in software
infrastructure for the i.economy, has deployed Informix i.Reach(TM) at
the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) in the Czech Republic. In
line with the recently introduced Freedom of Information Act, MIT has
centralized trade and industry information, which citizens can now
access via the Internet. Comprehensive information on economic,
industrial, export and consumer rights is now available to Czech
businesses and citizens.
"The Informix i.Reach solution was chosen because of its easy
integration with the existing MIT technological infrastructure.
i.Reach will also scale to match our future on-line needs," said
Miloslav Marcan, director of IT Section of the Ministry of Industry
and Trade. "Most important for us, though, was the high speed of
implementation offered by solution provider Corpus and Informix -- we
had a working system ready for use within two months." Corpus
Solutions is a Czech Internet company.
The Freedom of Information Act, implemented in the Czech Republic
on January 1, 2000, requires all government agencies to make
information available on-line as a resource for Czech citizens and
businesses.
In addition to publishing information externally, MIT also uses
i.Reach to provide Ministry employees access to internal government
documents, enabling them to share, view and amend content on-line. For
example, business directories, legislation passed since 1945,
real-time work flow documents, tenders and timetables are all
available on-line to Ministry employees.
"Our i.Reach solution is helping to modernize government
information systems across Europe," said Jim Hendrickson, senior vice
president of the i.Informix business group. "When a government deploys
this technology, it is able to provide a higher level of service to
the public at a lower cost to the taxpayers."
The project was implemented by Corpus Solutions, a Czech Internet
company, and Informix.
About the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade
The Ministry of Industry and Trade is the central government
agency for national industrial policy covering all industrial segments
in the Czech Republic. The Ministry of Industry and Trade further
co-ordinates the Czech Republic foreign trade policy in relation to
individual states, provides the conclusion of bilateral and
multilateral commercial and economic treaties, implements business
co-operation with the EU, EFTA, WTO and other multi-national
organizations. It controls and performs the activities connected with
the exercise of license policy in economic contacts with foreign
countries. It applies the procedures to prevent the import of products
at dumping prices. MIT also acts in the capacity of Czech Republic
Trade Licensing Office controlling the hallmark facilities and
precious metal testing, and provides for energy and trade inspections.
It is the central authority of the national administration in
commodity exchange matters.
About i.Reach
Informix i.Reach includes a simple Web browser interface that
allows any individual within an organization to easily contribute to
and/or access documents from a Web site. With i.Reach, approval of
content can be delegated to "folder owners" -- those qualified to
manage and review individual subject matter areas. This not only
improves the quality of published material, but also spreads the load
of managing the Web site content throughout the organization and
eliminates the bottleneck of centralized content administration.
