Mentalix Increases Performance and Features in Pixel!FX 2000; Version 2000 Features Multi-threaded
Scanning and New Developer Tools
PLANO, Texas, Jul 28, 2000 - Mentalix Inc. ( www.mentalix.com) is now shipping Pixel!FX(R) 2000, the
company's comprehensive imaging and scanning product line for UNIX(R).
This latest version of the Pixel!FX software suite features significant performance enhancements, including multi-threaded scanning, new
tools for developers and added functionality across all products in the Pixel!FX application family.
The multi-threaded scanning capabilities included in Pixel!FX 2000 increase the quality and efficiency of the scanning process as well as
the resulting images. Multi-threaded scanning helps to eliminate the potential for scanner "backtracking" -- which can adversely affect
image quality and make the scanning process take longer than necessary. Additionally, multi-threaded scanning offers particular value
when the user wants to perform image processing tasks on the fly, such as applying convolution filters while scanning an image.
With the Version 2000 release, Mentalix is also expanding its line of products designed for developers and systems integrators.
Pixel!ENGINE, a TCL-based scripting interface, provides additional functions for enabling batch or command-line interactive scanning
and image processing. A new companion product, Pixel!ENGINE OCR, includes all of the features found in Pixel!ENGINE, plus Optical
Character Recognition functionality. Both Pixel!ENGINE and Pixel!ENGINE OCR offer more control than a standard command-line
interface, but do not require the degree of programming expertise needed to use an Application Programming Interface (API). With these
tools, developers can customize the Graphical User Interface; add batch scanning, editing and OCR functionality to a networked system;
and implement scripts to automatically carry out repetitive or frequently used imaging tasks at a fraction of the cost of creating such
solutions themselves. In addition, an updated version of the Pixel!SCAN API Toolkit, Mentalix's full API interface solution, is available.
Pixel!FX 2000 also includes several new and updated features, product fixes, support for more scanners, and usability improvements in
the interface. The Pixel!FX imaging suite runs on UNIX platforms, including Sun OS, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, SGI IRIX, Linux,
and Digital UNIX. The Pixel!SCAN application supports more than 40 different desktop and drum scanner models from leading
manufacturers such as Agfa, Bell+Howell, Epson, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Howtek, Microtek, Sharp, and UMAX Technologies.
The Pixel!FX product family encompasses applications to meet nearly any imaging requirement -- including software for scanning, editing,
file format conversion, OCR, digital cameras, and printing, as well as a database for convenient storage and retrieval of images. Mentalix
provides both stand-alone options and product suites that combine multiple applications in a single, integrated solution.
Product literature, demos and trial software are available at the Mentalix Web site, http://www.mentalix.com. Mentalix can also be
