Trimble Wins China's Ministry of Railway Contract
for GPS Surveying Equipment
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 30, 2000 -- Trimble
(NASDAQ:TRMB) announced that it has been awarded a
contract from the Chinese Ministry of Railway to provide 40
Global Positioning System (GPS) survey systems. The GPS Total
Station® 4700 systems will be used to construct a new 400 mile
railway from Gui Yang to Lou Di in the Gui Zhou providence of
China.
"The construction market is a strategic business focus for the
company," said Ron Hyatt, Trimble's vice president of the
Precision Positioning Group. "We are extremely pleased to have
been awarded the Chinese Ministry of Railway contract. The win
reinforces our leadership as well as our commitment to the
construction industry and the Asian market."
Trimble will supply its GPS Total Station 4700 survey system. It is
a modular system designed to allow surveyors total flexibility for
different set-up configurations that may require a separate GPS
receiver and antenna. The system is ideal for both surveying and
staking out the railway construction project.
Using the 4700 system, the construction surveyors working on the
new railway can very quickly and accurately survey the site. The
4700 receiver utilizes the latest in Trimble dual-frequency,
real-time technology. Construction surveyors can get centimeter
accuracy and receive position updates five times per second while
moving. Data is then downloaded to the Trimble Geomatics
OfficeTM software for processing and transfer to the design
package. Once the final design is complete, the surveyors can use
the GPS Total Station 4700 systems for fast stakeout-allowing the
earthmoving and construction to begin.
Trimble's GPS Total Station 4700 incorporates four major
components: the 4700 GPS receiver with an integrated radio
modem, separate GPS and radio antennae, the rugged TSC1TM
data collector with Trimble Survey ControllerTM software, and the
easy-to-use Trimble Geomatics OfficeTM processing software.
