Portable Internet Previews Advanced Portable Web Site On Ericsson Smartphone
Park Ridge, NJ June 6, 2000 - Visitors to Ericsson’s Supercomm2000 Booth (#4715 in Hall E) at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta this week, can experience, for the first time in the U.S., a rich-content, location-sensitive portable web site on Ericsson’s new R380 Smartphone. The demonstration offers a sneak peak at what will be other cutting-edge, customizable applications from Portable Internet, Inc., a mobile e-commerce ASP. The company will soon announce what is expected to be the future of mobile location services and partnerships.

This application will be the first time that interactive maps, advanced address and yellow page searches, restaurant reviews and turn by turn driving directions have ever been integrated on a handheld device. “Portable Internet's advanced location services application illustrates the superior power and user experience of Ericsson's R380 Smartphone,” said Dan Coole, Manager, Americas Market Development, Smartphones & Communicators for Ericsson. The demonstration offers the first glance of a truly useful, everyday application on a compact-size WAP phone.

“Portable Internet’s application on the R380 Smartphone shows how high functionality tasks, previously performed solely on the PC-based web, can now be easily accomplished on a small wireless phone,” said Mike Flom, President and CEO of Portable Internet. “Ericsson has widened the appeal of mobile services for consumers and corporations with advanced products as the R380. We can completely overhaul the way people gather information and access services while on the road.” Ericsson will show how visitors to or residents of Atlanta could graphically find, evaluate and get to restaurants, attractions and other places of interest.
