ALLDATA and InfoMove Sign Exclusive Partnership
Relationship Enables InfoMove to Deliver First-of-its-Kind Wireless Vehicle
Monitoring Services by Linking to ALLDATA's Information Database
ELK GROVE, Calif., June 12 -- ALLDATA, the worldwide market
leader in publishing computer-based diagnostic, repair and estimating
information, and InfoMove, the first company to fully integrate and deliver
the power of the Internet in the car, today announced an exclusive partnership
to incorporate ALLDATA's information with InfoMove's wireless-based services,
delivering real-time, location-specific content in the car.
This relationship gives InfoMove access to ALLDATA's comprehensive
maintenance and diagnostic information for vehicle monitoring, providing
drivers vital operating statistics, real-time alerts of maintenance schedules,
access to technical service bulletins and suggested repair options while on
the road.
In addition, InfoMove has exclusive rights to deliver to subscribers
relevant, location-specific retail information, based on ALLDATA's network of
over 30,000 repair shops around the country.
"With today's busy schedules, receiving the right diagnostic or
maintenance information at the right time can be invaluable to car owners and
their preferred service provider," said Peter Holland, president and CEO of
InfoMove. "This agreement with ALLDATA allows us to deliver that critical
information in real-time as the driver is en route."
InfoMove's wireless-based service delivers personalized real-time,
location-specific Internet content into the car through palm-sized and
handheld PC devices, as well as Internet-enabled cell phones. By integrating
GPS data from a vehicle or mobile devices in the vehicle, InfoMove pinpoints a
driver's specific location, speed and direction as well as the current route
to their final destination.
Using InfoMove's service, enabled with content from ALLDATA, a driver en
route will be alerted immediately of performance problems such as dropping oil
pressure or a service engine alert. Once a notice is received, based on each
car's location and registered profile, InfoMove's server recognizes the
driver's proximity to their preferred ALLDATA repair facility and will
navigate the driver to their shop. In an emergency, or disabled vehicle
situation, InfoMove can recommend the driver to the closest Certified ALLDATA
Information Specialist (CAIS) shop.
"One of the toughest things for a repair shop to do is diagnose an
intermittent problem that is not captured by the engine control module for
later review," noted Brett Easley, president of ALLDATA. "This agreement with
InfoMove means vehicle owners and their preferred service providers will have
more current information at their fingertips."
"What InfoMove is providing," continues Easley, "fits perfectly into
ALLDATA's belief that the Internet can provide a new level of service for our
professional shop customers and their vehicle owners."
The real-time information from InfoMove is captured by the vehicle owner
and then communicated to their preferred repair provider, speeding diagnosis
and expediting a complete, high-quality repair. For the first time, the owner
has direct interaction with performance and maintenance alerts and diagnostic
information available from their vehicle. This partnership not only
facilitates that owner-to-vehicle interactivity, but also improves the
relationship between the vehicle owner and their preferred repair provider.
InfoMove will offer its service to Internet portals, hardware manufacturers,
automotive companies and other organizations as private-label and co-branded
solutions. A pilot project is scheduled in early 2000, and consumers will be
able to sign up for the service in Q3 2000.
