AMCI Applies For Patents Aimed To Push Mobile Wireless Data Solutions To Next Level
OMAHA, Neb., Mar 22, 2000 - AMCI, a wireless data solutions pioneer, recently filed
patent applications for two inventions designed for the wireless data marketplace. These innovative technologies are expected
to push wireless data communications further into the business-to-business mainstream by offering next-generation wireless
capabilities.
The first innovation allows for simultaneous communication with multiple wireless networks. The second innovation provides
improved location accuracy for applications that rely on wireless communications. Both technologies will allow increased
capabilities for managing mobile resources at a decreased operating cost.
Today there are a several network choices for communicating data wirelessly - primarily through cellular, radio and satellite
networks. According to Jim Fox, Vice President of Marketing, "Each wireless network system has its own limitations seen
either in coverage area or price. AMCI has developed a means for not only being able to send data to and from a mobile
resource using more than one wireless network but our technology also can choose the most economical or fastest route to
send data based on the parameters our clients set."
AMCI has also filed a patent for a software invention that actually improves the accuracy and precision of the Global
Positioning System (GPS) using commonly available, standard GPS receivers. This invention uses the results of AMCI's latest
research and testing with GPS and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to deliver more accurate positioning information
at a substantially reduced cost. According to Jim Fox, "Early testing of this patent-pending technology allowed us to improve
GPS accuracy to less than 15 feet without the need for sophisticated and expensive differential GPS equipment."
These are not the first AMCI patents. In 1993, AMCI was awarded a patent for their computer-mounting bracket for railroad
locomotives. Then in 1998, AMCI was awarded another patent for their system that automatically monitors the electronic
equipment connected to a communication device on locomotives. In recent years AMCI has begun to move their wireless data
technologies beyond the railroad industry and the two patents currently pending, have far-reaching implications for any
organization needing to provide real-time communication with their mobile resources and field service workers.
About AMCI AMCI, based in Omaha, Nebraska, has 13 years experience with telecommunications and wireless data
technology. The company architects, builds and manages web-enabled wireless data solutions. These solutions help companies
extend the power and capabilities of their systems to mobile workers through Mobile Resource Management (MRM). This
results in cost savings and improved productivity directly impacting their client's bottom line. The company currently serves
customers across the United States, Canada and Mexico. For more information on AMCI, visit www.amciwireless.com or
