PCI Geomatics Signs Agreement with the Centre for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST), University of Arkansas
Richmond Hill, Ontario - May 18, 2000: PCI Geomatics announces the signing of an agreement with the University of Arkansas Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) for joint cooperation in the areas of remote sensing and geomatics.

PCI Geomatics (www.pcigeomatics.com) has been developing industry leading geospatial software since 1982 and has continuously been a tireless supporter for the advanced study of remote sensing, digital photogrammetry, GIS, cartography, and all earth sciences in academic institutions around the world. CAST, established at the University of Arkansas in 1991, is dedicated to the study of applications in GIS, remote sensing, digital photogrammetry and interoperability.

In celebration of this new level of cooperation, PCI Geomatics is establishing a Center of Excellence in Geomatics and Remote Sensing at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies. This Center of Excellence will embody the special collaborative relationship that PCI Geomatics and CAST will work to cultivate and maintain.

In doing so, PCI Geomatics joins other notable CAST associates such as Oracle Corporation (Center of Excellence in Spatial Data Management) and Trimble Navigation Ltd. (Center of Excellence for GPS Mapping Systems: Training and Research).

Together, PCI Geomatics and CAST have embarked to establish a landmark relationship that will capture their many common interests and ideals. Ultimately, this affiliation is envisioned to become the cornerstone of a multi-faceted and productive academic collaborative with successful long-term joint initiatives in the areas of research, education, and technology-transfer.

CAST unites personnel from a variety of college organizations in the common goal of introducing and making GIS technologies available to a wide variety of researchers and professionals and to furthering the field through basic and applied research. Much of CAST's research efforts involve new approaches to spatial data and the development of new methodologies for analysis of these data, providing products to a variety of different audiences.

PCI Geomatics will provide the CAST with a full range of its remote sensing and geomatics software and full software maintenance for the hardware platforms in use at the Center.

As its primary contribution to this collaborative, CAST will provide a range of service-type deliverables, including review and beta testing of PCI Geomatics products, provision of externally sponsored research opportunities that will test PCI Geomatics technology, and the implementation of an internship program. Such a program would offer qualified students (undergraduate and graduate) from a wide range of disciplines (including geography, environmental dynamics, computer science, and business/commerce) the opportunity to work directly with PCI Geomatics personnel.

"CAST offers us a wonderful opportunity to grow our product development to satisfy the needs of future users. We offer CAST a wonderful opportunity to grow the minds of the same future." Dr. Robert Moses, President and CEO of PCI Geomatics

"CAST is very excited to be chosen as a Center of Excellence by PCI Geomatics. We will be utilizing PCI solutions throughout our university curriculum and in our research projects. The PCI Geomatics suite of products provides a valuable resource for students and researchers alike." Fred Limp, CAST Director

"We look forward to cooperating closely with PCI Geomatics in a number of R/D areas relating to OpenGIS, interoperability, web mapping, and other areas designed to increase the accessibility and content value of geospatial data." Jim Farley, CAST Technical Director

Later this year, PCI Geomatics will be providing CAST (and the rest of the world) with a new software solution: GEOMATICA™. This new and soon to be released software is a complete geomatics solution which provides affordable software, production systems, services, component software, and more. GEOMATICA unites separate technologies for remote sensing image processing, GIS, and digital cartography into a single modular environment. Highly customizable, users will be able to select from various components that best fit their needs, create precise end-to-end process solutions, adjust a variety of work setting preferences, and even produce their own specialized software using a wide range of tools.

PCI Geomatics is a world leading developer of geomatics software and solutions based on its remote sensing, digital photogrammetry, spatial analysis, and cartographic editing programs. PCI Geomatics has over 11,000 licenses installed in over 100 countries, a result of its commitment to supply leading edge software, customer support and service worldwide.

The Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) was established at the University of Arkansas in September of 1991. CAST is an element of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences but has a campus-wide role with the active involvement of the Fulbright College Departments of Anthropology, Biological Sciences, Geography, and Geology; the Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences Departments of Agronomy, Rural Sociology, and Entomology; the College of Architecture Department of Landscape Architecture; and the College of Engineering Departments of Civil Engineering and Industrial Engineering.

CAST focuses on research, undergraduate and graduate education, spatial data distribution, technology transfer, professional education in geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS), digital photogrammetry, remote sensing, and interoperability. Many of CAST's research efforts involve new approaches to spatial data and the development of new methodologies for analysis of these data, thereby providing products to a variety of audiences. In 1999 the Seamless Warehouse of Arkansas Geodata, a current CAST project, received a Smithsonian-Computerworld Laureate for technology innovation in Academics.

GEOMATICA is a registered trademark of PCI Geomatics (www.pcigeomatics.com).
