GeoConcept removes barriers to use of geographic information systems with
internet-based Web Server
Paris, May 19, 2000--GeoConcept, leading European publisher of PC-based
geographical information systems and software, announces today the
availability of Web Server, a new service that makes it easy and highly
cost-effective for enterprises and other organizations to take advantage of
mapping and other cartographic information in their daily business.
Using Web Server via the internet, companies can access a geographical
representation of information they hold without needing in house technical
knowledge of mapping systems. GeoConcept expects Web Server to be used in
all growth application areas where it is useful to show the location of say
branches of a retail chain or offices, warehouses or delivery points.
GeoConcept's Web Server acts as a company's cartographic database, hosted
and managed by GeoConcept. It allows companies to share costs between
different divisions within the company. Also, as the data and services
accessed are effectively rented rather than purchased for each client,
companies will be able to access and use cartographic data at lower cost.
"With WebServer, GeoConcept is removing the last barriers to the use of
geographic information systems by any company, no matter what its size,"
said Guillaume Beauregard, director of sales and marketing at GeoConcept.
"Companies need no GIS expertise in-house and what is more, WebServer
drastically lowers entry, maintenance and access costs so they pay only for
what they get."
Users of Web Server pay a monthly fee to GeoConcept based on usage and the
service level required. Secure application servers can be provided on an
exclusive or shared basis. GeoConcept assigns a system administrator to
each client to ensure the site is fully maintained.
