MapInfo Launches Los Alamos Search Engine as a Public Service on
www.mapinfo.com
Typing in Address Displays Locale on Map and Determines If It’s in Affected Area
TROY, NY,May 19, 2000-MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS) today announced a public service
search engine to aid in determining if a particular address in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is in the area
affected by the recent fires. Using satellite imagery from FEMA, the Federal Emergency and
Management Agency, combined with MapInfo technology and street data, MapInfo has created a search
engine on its Web site at
www.mapinfo.com/losalamos. By clicking on SEARCH and typing in a street
or complete address, with city, state and ZIP code, anyone in the world can see the locale pinpointed on a
map and “zoom in” to determine if it lies within the affected area.
“MapInfo has played an active part in several disaster recovery efforts with FEMA, other federal agencies
involved in recovery efforts, and with a number of state emergency management offices here in the
United States and in several parts of the world,” said John C. Cavalier, president and CEO. “Our
location-based technology has aided in numerous air disasters, flight recoveries and natural disasters, such
as the New York State Ice Storm and Kobe earthquake in Japan. We are pleased to be able to use
MapInfo technology to provide a public service to those affected by the fires surrounding Los Alamos.”
