Autodesk Enters Mobile Market with Autodesk® OnSite First to Deliver Interactive Design and Location-Based Data to the Point of Work
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., May 23, 2000-Autodesk, Inc., announced today the immediate worldwide availability of Autodesk OnSite, the first enterprise solution for bringing design and location-based information to the point of work via mobile devices. Autodesk OnSite utilizes the Palm OS® platform, Oracle8i™ Lite and the Microsoft mobile computing operating system. Mobile technology leaders Fujitsu PC Corporation, Oracle, Palm, Inc., and Symbol today expressed support for Autodesk OnSite. Autodesk OnSite integrates mobile tasks and corporate information systems by providing an interactive, two-way communication environment that ties the mobile worker into the overall decision-support system.

By communicating live data between corporate databases and the point of work, Autodesk OnSite helps industries with large mobile workforces compete through faster decision- making, reduced operational expenses, improved customer service, and streamlined data maintenance.

“Bringing design information to mobile employees at their point of work is a natural extension of Autodesk efforts to help our customers use the Internet and leverage their data investments across the enterprise,” said Carol Bartz, Autodesk Chairman, CEO, and President. “Working with the top mobile technology vendors we are delivering an integrated solution across the range of vertical markets Autodesk serves.”

“Through partnership with Oracle, the Autodesk OnSite solution is changing the way businesses interact with their mobile workforces by bringing e-business applications to mobile devices,” said Jeremy Burton, Oracle vice president, Internet Platform Marketing. “This is just the kind of business use we envisioned Oracle8i Lite enabling.”

"Customers need handheld business solutions that offer mobile access to their critical corporate data," said Chuck Yort, vice president of business and government for Palm, Inc. "Autodesk OnSite leverages the power and simplicity of the industry-leading Palm OS platform to help meet this need and deliver real business benefits."

Mobile Hardware Vendors Support Autodesk® OnSite

“Moving data-intensive information such as drawings, maps, and designs to a mobile device is a tremendous technology leap that allows mobile computing to address new kinds of business needs. We are partnering with Autodesk to bring this information to the point of activity for our enterprise customers.” Keith Kanneg, Senior Director, Software Marketing Symbol Technologies, Inc.

“We’re seeing significant demand from customers for applications that address the needs of field-based employees while they are on-site. The availability of Autodesk OnSite for CE-based mobile devices later this year will help us address our customers’ demands for mobile point-of- work solutions.” Sara Nelson, Vice President of Marketing, Fujitsu PC Corporation

Autodesk OnSite Overview

The information delivered to the field is live vector images that allow interaction with the data. Through its reliable connections to a central database, Autodesk OnSite overcomes data integration and duplication issues that plague mobile applications. Employees can now analyze and update corporate data remotely to ensure complete, current information.
