ObjectFX Ships Version 2.5 of its SpatialFX™ Developer Suite for
Location-Based Visualization
J2EE™ and EJB™1.1 support, enhanced routing and geocoding performance are among the upgrades for visualization on
multiple clients.
St. Paul, Minn., October 31, 2000 – ObjectFX Corporation, a leading provider of Web-based visualization software,
today announced the availability of the eighth major release of its SpatialFX™ Suite. SpatialFX™ 2.5 provides a powerful
architecture that ties together data from multiple sources and presents it in easily understood and highly interactive, real-time
“views.” The SpatialFX upgrade enhances routing and geocoding applications for faster, more detailed visualization of
business information on any client – from desktop to wireless devices. This location-based visualization from ObjectFX
enables rapid return on investment by reducing costs, enhancing productivity and accelerating decision-making by
communicating critical information.
“ObjectFX continues to demonstrate its commitment to the development of Java based applications for the
Web-based visualization software market,” said Rick Saletta, group product manager, Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition,
Software Systems Group, at Sun Microsystems. “We are pleased to see that the latest upgrades to SpatialFX take
integration with Java technology significantly further on the road to supporting all aspects of the J2EE platform.
SpatialFX’s solid Java based infrastructure accelerates the deployment of solutions which require multi-platform, highly
interoperable solutions for fast, effective business decisions.”
SpatialFX’s unique component architecture includes client-side Mapping Beans, a rich Java™ technology-based
Class Library, Java based servlets, server-side Enterprise JavaBeans™ components (EJB™), and a back-end Application
Server. Among the new functional features in this 2.5 release are: Wide Area Vehicle Routing and Extended Address
Geocoding options, new map display and travel databases derived from premium Geographic Data Technologies (GDT), a
streamlined cross-platform installer, updated licensing and usage counting, as well as new programming examples.
Architectural upgrades to SpatialFX include J2EE technology support by making the components and class library integrate
into all aspects of a J2EE based application architecture. This includes EJB components for the transactional business layer,
servlets for the web tier, and JavaBeans™ components for the clients. There is also a strong move in this release toward full
EJB Specification 1.1 integration as demonstrated through successful deployment in the BEA WebLogic™ 5.1 Application
Server.
"This release continues our efforts to provide the richest, easiest and best solutions to tightly integrate
location-based visualization and analysis in business applications. We have put much effort into making sure that our suite
integrates well with Java standards and continue to deliver on our promise of “any client, anywhere” by providing fast,
efficient clients from the desktop to the Internet to the wireless handheld”, said Michell Cantin, Director Product
Management for ObjectFX.
