Dell Launches New Workstation Graphics Cards;
Workstation Leader Also Introduces Specialized Graphics Program
ROUND ROCK, Texas, Oct. 31, 2000--Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today
introduced four new standard graphics cards for Americas-based customers of its Dell Precision(tm)
Workstations.
Dell, the world's leading direct computer systems company and workstation supplier, also launched
its Dell Graphics Plus program for customers with specialized graphics requirements.
"Customers buy workstations for critical applications. Many of those applications rely heavily on
the graphics subsystem, so having a range of certified graphics offerings is extremely important to
them," said Jeff Clarke, vice president and general manager for Dell Precision Workstations.
"With our direct-to-customer business model, our goal is to deliver the broadest and most capable
range of graphic solutions to the market faster than anyone else, either through our standard factory
offerings or using the Dell Graphics Plus program."
New Graphics Cards
Dell is one of the first workstation vendors to offer the Fire GL2 graphics adapter from FGL
Graphics, a division of S3 Inc. The 64 MB Fire GL2 offers high-end performance at a mid-range
price and supports both analog and digital outputs.
Dell will be first-to-market with the NVIDIA Quadro2 Pro, a 64 MB card with outstanding
price/performance for 2D and 3D applications. The Quadro2 Pro includes optimized drivers for
mechanical design and digital content creation applications.
For basic graphics needs, Dell Precision Workstation 220 customers can now order the NVIDIA
TNT2 Pro, a 16 MB card that offers excellent business application performance.
Dell's new multi-monitor option is the Matrox Millennium G450. Offering DualHead(tm) Display(a)
functionality, this card is an excellent option for users who multi-task or access data from multiple
sources.
All of these cards are available through Dell's standard factory installation process. A sample Dell
Precision Workstation 420 configuration includes a single Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processor at 1 GHz,
256 MB PC 600 RDRAM, 9 GB(b) Ultra 160/M SCSI hard disk drive, 48X-maximum CD ROM
drive, Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 and the Matrox Millennium G450 for $2,613(c). For the same
base system with the NVIDIA Quadro2 Pro card add $460, and for the Fire GL2 add $660 to that
base price.
Dell Graphics Plus
Dell today also introduced "Dell Graphics Plus" for workstation customers who need specialized
graphics products that are not part of Dell's standard factory offerings. The program will offer
additional graphics adapters and related products, such as video capture devices, that are tested by
Dell. For example, customers who need a graphics card that supports up to four analog or four digital
monitors can utilize Dell Graphics Plus to order the Matrox G200MMS card.
