LEICA Introduces New Turnkey DGPS Reference Station Package
Leica Geosystems has introduced a new Advanced Continuously Operating
Reference Station (CORS) System for a wide range of differential GPS
applications.

The new Leica Advanced CORS is a turnkey package that includes a
high-precision GPS reference receiver, choke-ring antenna and a choice
of Windows-NT or -98 control software. The Leica system offers a
complete solution, containing everything needed to set up a permanent
GPS reference station, including universal power supply, cables and
mounting hardware.
At the heart of the new CORS System is the RS500 dual-frequency
12-channel GPS receiver, which is based on Leica's proven System 500
survey-grade GPS products. The high-precision real-time kinematic (RTK)
receiver incorporates Leica's patented ClearTrak(tm) signal processing
technology, which provides unsurpassed satellite tracking and signal
reception. The RS500 receiver has four power ports and four RS232 data
ports for maximum flexibility in outputting data. The system outputs
differential data in Leica's proprietary RTK format, as well as the CMR
and RTCM formats, ensuring compatibility with any Leica dual-frequency
survey receivers and those of other manufacturers. The unit is also
fitted with a PC-Card slot for use with PCMCIA memory cards.
The choke-ring antenna used with Leica's CORS System is designed to meet
the International GPS Service (IGS) standard, and offers superior
multipath mitigation, jamming resistance and phase center stability.
The rugged gold anodized antenna is precision machined from a solid
aluminum block, and the antenna element is sealed against humidity and
dust.
The Advanced CORS System can be coupled with Leica's ControlStation(tm)
software for single-station applications or IRONet(tm) software for
multi-station networks. Both software solutions provide complete
receiver control and data logging.
The RS500 equipment is built for field use and is designed to withstand
rain, snow, dust, sand, heat and cold.
Based in Torrance, California, the GPS Business Area of Leica Geosystems
Inc., designs, manufactures and markets professional products using the
Global Positioning System (GPS) for a broad range of survey, mapping,
navigation, positioning, machine control and other applications.
The Leica Geosystems Group, with worldwide headquarters in Heerbrugg,
Switzerland, has a more than 100-year heritage as one of the leading
instrument and system innovators in surveying, industrial measurement
and navigation. Leica is a worldwide registered trademark that stands
for quality and service.
