Teramedia Wins NLIS License

Teramedia Limited has signed a licence issued by the Local Government Information House (LGIH) to provide National Land Information Service (NLIS) channel services. The licence gives Teramedia the right to deliver government data to property professionals for a minimum of seven years. Teramedia expect to launch their NLIS branded services in the Spring of 2001.

Teramedia’s existing service, Territorium, was launched in May of this year. It provides a technology backbone joining together estate agents and conveyancers so they can work more effectively with each other and their clients. The NLIS licence now allows Teramedia to provide a complete solution to conveyancing professionals. In addition to providing a working environment, Teramedia will be one of only a small number of companies who will collectively enable on-line access to government data sources such as Local Land Charges from Local Authorities and search information from Her Majesty’s Land Registry. Territorium will also allow for the inclusion of both surveyors and lenders, so they can benefit from the information NLIS provides, especially in support of re-mortgaging and Seller’s Information Packs.

Steven Foster, Teramedia’s CEO, said “I am delighted that we have been able to conclude the negotiation process to secure an NLIS licence. This award is the culmination of many years of hard work, by the staff of Teramedia, our investors, our consortium partners and the NLIS Team. We can now go forward with confidence and build a system that will deliver cost effective electronic conveyancing services to property professionals nationwide.”

NLIS is seen by many in government as one of the lead initiatives in Tony Blair’s Modernising Government agenda. NLIS will soon provide access to the land and property databases held within hundreds of government bodies, so they can be ‘searched’ electronically. This will quickly lead to faster, smoother and more certain property conveyancing for both the property professional and a more enjoyable experience for the house buying public.

The Teramedia Consortium brings together a world class team to deliver NLIS. The Consortium has experience of working with Government and within the private sector to deliver high quality solutions. All the Teramedia Consortium members have direct experience of working on projects which share technology and business processes with NLIS:

KPMG is one of the world’s leading consultancy providers. It was commissioned to write the 1996 NLIS feasibility study and KPMG Canada was involved in the establishment of Teranet;

Intergraph is one of the world’s leading GIS technology developers. Intergraph provided technology solutions for the NLIS pilot in Bristol;

Teranet was formed specifically to deliver electronic land registry services and a series of value-added e-commerce products to the legal, financial and real estate sectors in the Province of Ontario, Canada;

Compaq is a major supplier of Government IT systems and is the HM Land Registry supplier for infrastructure services. Compaq also has extensive experience in implementing large systems in other industry sectors, such as finance and telecommunications.

Oracle is the world’s largest information management and software company. Oracle powers 10 out of 10 of the largest e-commerce sites and 9 out of 10 of the largest e-business sites. Oracle is increasingly recognised as the technology and advice provider for companies wishing to become established in e-business as 70% of all e-commerce sites run on Oracle technology;

Cisco Systems is the leading global provider of internet working solutions for corporate Intranets and the global Internet. Its solutions are the internet working foundation of thousands of companies, universities, utilities, and government agencies world-wide.

In addition to its core partners, Teramedia has developed relationships with a number of other affiliates, which have roles to play in the end-to-end solution of NLIS.
