Intergraph Public Safety Selected
by St. Louis City Police; Advanced Technology to Manage Emergencies
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 29, 2000--Giving St. Louis City Police Officers
a technological boost in their mission to deliver the highest level of police service to the citizens of St.
Louis, the Board of Police Commissioners of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD)
recently approved the implementation phase of the Department's Enterprise Technology Project.
Intergraph Public Safety (IPS)(NASDAQ:INGR) will provide its state-of-the-art computer aided
dispatch (CAD) system as well as modules for police reporting, records management and investigation.
"Overall the CAD system will provide important information designed to enhance officer safety. For
example, officers will be able to access data that will let them know about prior calls for service at an
address they are responding to," said Barbara Wright, Director of Information Services for the
SLMPD.
Implementation of the new CAD system began in mid-October and is expected to be fully
operational by early June of next year. Police reporting, records management and investigation modules
will be implemented in early 2001 with a completion target date in early 2002.
Once completed the CAD system will be able to automatically route priority level calls to patrol cars
reducing the time to dispatch cars to a critical situation. The system will also give patrolling officers the
ability to complete incident reports from computers in their cars. These two features are expected to
reduce the time it takes for a report to be available to the public by 60 percent.
Wright explained that earlier this year a team consisting of police officers, detectives and civilian
employees worked with IPS to define requirements of a fully-integrated system and to make sure the
new process flow would serve the needs of the Department and the citizens of the City of St. Louis.
Total funding for the Enterprise System Project is $3.9 million over the next two fiscal years. Fifty
percent of the cost is being supported by the federally funded-COPS MORE Grant.
As part of the SLMPD's strategic plan to replace a cumbersome mainframe system, the PC-based
technology of the new system will give officers better tools to perform their work. Wright added, " With
laptop computers in our patrol cars, PC's in the area stations and software specialists at headquarters
tied together by a wide-area network, St. Louis City will benefit from increased efficiency and
effectiveness."
