OracleMobile to Reach Millions with Leading Wireless Partners Arch, Motient and Paradigm4
Extends Functionality of Wireless Messaging Devices
With New Ask@OracleMobile Services
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Sept. 5 -
OracleMobile, a subsidiary of
Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) focused on the wireless Internet industry, today
announced strategic partnerships with wireless communication leaders Arch
Communications Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: APGR), Motient (Nasdaq: MTNT) and
Paradigm4. These companies will each work with OracleMobile to promote
OracleMobile's offering for two-way wireless messaging devices. These new
partnerships, in addition to those previously announced with Research in
Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) (TSE: RIM) and Metrocall (Nasdaq: MCLL), are expected to
significantly accelerate the adoption of OracleMobile's Web
information-on-demand services, called Ask@OracleMobile, for the growing
number of two-way wireless messaging devices on the market.
"Mobile users want access to useful, relevant and personal Internet
information on demand," said Dr. Gerry Purdy, CEO of Mobile Insights, Inc.
"By extending the Ask@OracleMobile services, OracleMobile and its partners are
adding significantly value to the nearly seven million two-way wireless
messaging devices expected to be in use by the end of the year."
More Great Services For Ask@OracleMobile Users
The Ask@OracleMobile services, initially launched in June, turn two-way
wireless messaging devices into Web devices by allowing them to access the
Internet without a browser. The first ten services launched were stock
quotes, traffic, flight information, driving directions, horoscope, lottery,
dictionary, translation, UPS tracking and weather. Today, OracleMobile
extends the ability to access Internet information on demand with the addition
of the following new services:
-- eBay: Receive latest bid information for open auctions;
-- News: Get headlines by category for US, world, business, sports,
technology and health news from ScreamingMedia.com;
-- Movie Guide: Get theaters and show times for a particular movie
playing in your area from Hollywood.com;
-- Package Tracking: Track packages worldwide from Fedex and DHL in
addition to UPS; and
-- The Oracle: This "Magic 8-Ball" gives "psychic" answers to pressing
questions.
Ask@OracleMobile significantly increases the value of two-way wireless
messaging devices by enabling them to access important information directly
from OracleMobile's wireless portal ( http://www.oraclemobile.com ). To use
the service, OracleMobile two-way wireless messaging device users simply send
email to Ask@oraclemobile.com using keywords such as "news business" or "eBay"
and the auction number in the subject or body of the message. Users can also
ask for a local movie showtimes and locations by entering keyword "movie" and
then typing a zip code and a movie title. Ask@OracleMobile quickly sends back
the requested information.
"Our commitment is to develop the most innovative and useful mobile
services available," said Denise Lahey, CEO of OracleMobile. "By working with
