ATLANTA - August 1, 2001 - Byers Engineering Company today announced the
appointment of Stewart Asbury as president of its SpatialAge Solutions
Division. Asbury, a 21-year veteran of the company, takes over leadership
of the company from current president, Frank Fortson, who will retire in
August after 30 years of service with the company. Formerly senior vice
president, Asbury will oversee the management of client relations,
technical services and product development, and be responsible for the
division's financial performance.
"Since joining the company in 1980, Stewart's customer orientation, vision
and operational experience have contributed significantly to the
development of the SpatialAge Solutions division," said Kenneth G. Byers,
Jr., founder and president of Byers Engineering Company. "His succeeding
Frank is the natural evolution to continue the company's growth and
technological development."
"I am thrilled to continue the business strategy Frank has been
instrumental in developing over the years," said Asbury. "After working
together for 21 years, I expect a seamless transition."
For the next 6 - 9 months Fortson will continue as president and CEO of
eQuorum, an organization whose roots lie in Byers Engineering Company and
has since grown to 60 employees. After that time, Fortson will enjoy
full-time retirement.
While serving as senior vice president, Asbury headed up the development of
SpatialAge's next generation web enabled applications and geospatial data
warehousing tools and methodologies; technologies designed to keep Byers in
the forefront of emerging enterprise solutions. Asbury also developed
Byers' exclusive Knowledge Mapping(TM) process, the company's advanced
knowledge acquisition and user modeling process methodology. Additionally,
Asbury serves on the GITA (Geospatial Information & Technology Association) Board of
Directors, and was 1998 GITA conference chair. In 2000, Asbury was
appointed to the editorial advisory board of GEOWorld, the first magazine
devoted to serving the GIS industry.
Prior to joining Byers, Stewart was employed by Arthur Andersen & Company's
Management Information Consulting Division.
Stewart received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1969 and a
Masters in Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 1978.
