MapCloud - Vancouver, BC - MapCloud Services Inc. announced that Maps.com, one of
the top 15 most visited travel web sites (Jupiter/Media Metrix) will implement FreshMaps
web mapping software on the Maps.com web site to allow visitors greater interactivity with
their digital map data.
As well as offering a comprehensive travel and mapping information resource, Maps.com
offers one of the Web's largest collections of digital map graphics, available for business
licensing. Previously, visitors to www.maps.com would only be able to view a raster image of
a digital map, which had limited functionality. With FreshMaps technology, the visitor is able
to interact with the digital data in a vector format, allowing them to properly view the details
of the map prior to purchasing it.
"One of the key advantages of FreshMaps technology is that the end-user requires no
specialized client software or plug-ins to interact with the digital map data," stated Michael
Ball, V.P. Sales and Marketing for MapCloud. "The end-user only requires a Flash player
which is included in all current Internet browsers."
"Leveraging our digital map assets via the Web continues to be a great sales outlet for
Maps.com, as well as showcasing our products and services," said Chris Baker, CEO and
President of Maps.com. "We believe FreshMaps allows us to make it even easier for our
customer base to evaluate the digital files they wish to purchase, and this type of
functionality continues to set Maps.com apart as an innovator in the online space."
In addition, MapCloud is selling digital map data from Maps.com as part of their service
offering. "We have a number of customers who want to implement a web mapping
solution, yet don't have easy access to the digital data." explained Mr. Ball. "By offering
access to Maps.com digital map data, we are able to offer a complete solution to our
customers."
