Signiant Enables Secure Electronic Delivery of Space Imaging's Satellite Images to Global Customers

Space Imaging's First Application of Signiant's Service Reduces Costs, Creates New Revenue Opportunities and Cuts Satellite Image Delivery Time From Days to Minutes

BURLINGTON, MA - December 11, 2001 - Signiant Inc., the global standard in secure data movement services, today announced a service agreement with Space Imaging Inc. (Thornton, Colorado), a leading supplier of visual information products and services from satellite imagery and aerial photography. Space Imaging is the company that owns and operates the one-meter resolution IKONOS satellite, most recently drawing national attention by being the first to provide high-resolution images of New York and Washington, D.C. following the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Signiant's services enable Global 1000 companies to achieve strategic business objectives by automating and speeding secure electronic data movement between disparate software environments across their enterprise and throughout their value chain. The company's service platform is designed for ease of use, compatible with existing information technology infrastructures and business processes, and secure via selectable encryption levels and built-in digital authentication certificates.

Under the terms of the agreement announced today, Space Imaging's first application of Signiant's service would automate the entire process of delivering images from its IKONOS satellite to two global customers, starting from receipt of image orders and inventory management through to secure image delivery and billing. In the second phase of the deployment, Space Imaging would expand its use of the Signiant service to enable satellite image delivery to most of its top customers.

"We are very excited about the expansion of this relationship," said Bob Abrams, vice president of development, Space Imaging Inc. "In the aftermath of Sept. 11, our imagery became an important source of information. Signiant assisted us in handling the crush of visitors to our web site by off-loading the more than 700,000 downloads of post-Sept. 11 images of the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Now we are deploying Signiant's full-service platform to accelerate our leadership in the Earth observation industry."

Space Imaging's use of the Signiant service has cut the speed of image delivery to customers from days to minutes. The company has typically relied upon a combination of physical media like CDs, DVDs, and FTP servers to deliver satellite images to customers. Neither method is ideal: FTP delivery has scalability and security limitations, while physical media is cumbersome because of shipping, international customs delays, and the time it can take to digitally assemble a complete image from multiple disks. Signiant's secure web-based service now transfers complete high-resolution Space Imaging products to customers in minutes and completely eliminates the need for physical media.

"Signiant's service is compelling to companies like Space Imaging because it speeds delivery of secure quality products to customers, reduces costs by automating business processes, and provides competitive advantages that can immediately translate into the creation of new revenue opportunities," said Dennis Albano, chairman and CEO of Signiant Inc.
