Los Angeles Police Department Chooses Vality; Vality INTEGRITY to Ensure Address Accuracy to Enhance Los Angeles' 911 System

BOSTON, Dec. 10, 2001--Vality(R) Technology, Inc., the leader in enterprise data quality management solutions, today announced that the Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Emergency Command Control Communications System (ECCCS) Division has selected Vality INTEGRITY software to ensure the data quality of addresses in its 911 address verification database or Geofile. This information will be used by the ECCCS Division's new Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to respond more efficiently and effectively to 911 calls.

The ECCCS Division technical staff will use INTEGRITY to compare at least two primary sources of city data (the Los Angeles City Bureau of Engineering street centerline file and Thomas Brothers' digital base-map of the City of Los Angeles) to its current Geofile as a part of its Geofile Enhancement Program. The new CAD system and its enhanced Geofile will enable the LAPD to meet the requirements of Proposition M, mandated by voters in 1992, to enhance the city's 911 system. The accuracy and completeness of the Geofile is crucial to the effectiveness of the CAD system to ensure that 911 incident locations are quickly and accurately pinpointed every time a 911 call is received by the dispatch center even if the caller's location is different from the incident site.

"Vality INTEGRITY provides powerful capabilities for standardizing and matching addresses from diverse sources, even when those records have data variations and inconsistencies" said Jamileh Adami, GIS Development Coordinator for LAPD ECCCS Division's 911 Dual Dispatch Center Project. "Our ability to standardize diverse sources of data to any desired format, facilitates our goal of meeting the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) standards for data quality as well as share our enhanced address data with other city departments. These are both strategic goals we've pursued since the inception of the project. We also found the GUI to be user friendly. After two days of working with the INTEGRITY `getting started' exercises, we successfully re-engineered a sample file of city source data."

"The LAPD will benefit from the many advantages of INTEGRITY by being able to quickly and accurately enhance their Geofile," said Mark E. Atkins, Vality president and CEO. "With this improved information, the LAPD will be able to increase its productivity, by responding more quickly to 911 calls."

Vality's flagship INTEGRITY software gives companies control over data quality and enables them to re-purpose operational data into strategic enterprise intelligence. INTEGRITY standardizes inconsistent, incomplete and inaccurately input data; uncovers patterns and relationships; and consolidates views of customers, suppliers, patients and other entities - providing 100-percent visibility for better decision-making.
