SnapTrack and
SignalSoft Corp. Announce Industry Partnership; Companies to Ensure
Platform Interoperability and Jointly Market Location Solutions to Wireless
Carriers
SAN JOSE, Calif. & BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 1, 2001-- SnapTrack, Inc.,
pioneer of Wireless Assisted GPS(TM) location systems and a wholly owned subsidiary of
QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), and SignalSoft Corp. (Nasdaq: SGSF), a leading
software developer of Wireless Location Services(R), today announced an agreement to jointly market
and deliver location-based applications and systems to wireless carriers and service providers. The
companies will work together to ensure that their products are interoperable and will support each
other's efforts to market the combined solution to wireless carriers and service providers worldwide.
The SignalSoft suite of Wireless Location Services provides carriers with software operating
platforms and applications that organize and manage raw location data to create services in the four
key categories of safety, billing, information and tracking. SnapTrack's Wireless Assisted GPS location
system provides highly accurate location determination. The combination of SignalSoft's Wireless
Location Service products and Mobile Positioning Center (MPC), and SnapTrack's location server
engine, provide an integrated "best of breed," end-to-end solution for wireless services providers.
"We've been working with SignalSoft for several years to demonstrate the viability of wireless
location technology and applications to the carrier community, and we're very pleased to formalize our
relationship with them," said Steve Poizner, president of SnapTrack. "We believe that the combined
SnapTrack/SignalSoft solution will provide a high-quality mobile location solution to wireless operators
worldwide and will encourage a new generation of location-enabled applications based on accurate,
high-availability position location data."
"SignalSoft is pleased to be working with SnapTrack to ensure interoperability between our
respective products and to help grow the wireless location market," said David Hose, president and
chief executive officer, SignalSoft Corp. "Location-based services are becoming a key component of
the enhanced services portfolio offered or planned by most wireless operators, and our joint effort will
help strengthen this fast-paced industry and at the same time help set the stage for promoting standards
for wireless location services."
The agreement demonstrates SignalSoft's commitment to providing Wireless Location Services to its
customers, and leverages SnapTrack's experience and resources, including those of its parent
company, QUALCOMM, in the wireless location field. Financial terms of the transaction were not
disclosed.
SnapTrack's solutions are based upon its Wireless Assisted GPS technology and improve upon
conventional GPS by combining information from GPS satellites and wireless networks to accurately
and reliably pinpoint a wireless phone. While traditional GPS receivers may take several minutes to
provide a location fix, SnapTrack's solutions generally locate callers within a few seconds. With
SnapTrack's Location Indoors(TM) capability, callers are typically located with industry-leading
accuracy in a wide range of challenging call environments where other GPS-based wireless location
systems fail to perform, including inside houses and moving vehicles, under heavy foliage, and in
downtown urban canyons. SnapTrack's unique Location on Demand(TM) feature also ensures a
caller's privacy.
