Intergraph and British Columbia Ministry of Education Make Available GIS Tools for the Classroom

GeoMedia education kit to help students learn GIS techniques and simulate real-life applications

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 22, 2001 - Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions, a division of Intergraph Corporation, today announced a license agreement with the British Columbia Ministry of Education in Canada to make Intergraph's GeoMedia(r) GIS (geographic information systems) education kit available to more than 1,700 schools across British Columbia. A total of 10,000 GeoMedia licenses will be made available to British Columbia classrooms. GeoMedia can be used to support the British Columbia provincial curriculum for grade 12 geography classes, grade 11 biology, and grades 9 and 10 science, as well as social studies in lower grades. As part of the license agreement, professional development training will be made available to British Columbia teachers to help them optimize the GIS education kit materials and enhance the students learning experience.

This license agreement continues the vision of Intergraph's "The Power to Learn" academic program giving teachers and students the power to communicate geographically. The GeoMedia GIS education kit is tailored to all ages and is suitable for use by all teachers, whether they have technical backgrounds or not.

"We're excited to work with the Ministry of Education on this far-reaching educational licensing project," said Susan Nolen, academic program manager for Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions. "The ministry's support for teachers and students and its eagerness to introduce new technology tools will enrich the classroom experience."
