China Signs Network Station Renewal Contract with RSI
RADARSAT International (RSI) of Richmond, BC and the Canadian Space Agency
(CSA) of Saint-Hubert, Que. announced today that the Remote Sensing
Satellite Ground Station (RSGS) of the People's Republic of China has
extended the terms of its RADARSAT-1 network station license agreement by a
period of three years. The extension begins March 01, 2001 with commitments
by RSGS to increase the volume of RADARSAT-1 data received over each of the
next three years.
"We are delighted that RSGS has extended its contract, as it shows RSGS's
long-term commitment to the RADARSAT-1 program. RSI is working with RSGS to
further develop RADARSAT-1 commercial markets in China" said Pierre Engel,
RSI's Director of International Network Station.
RSGS joined the RADARSAT network station team in May of 1996, and has been
providing high quality RADARSAT-1 products since Operation Certification in
January 1998. RSGS is the sole network station in China, supplying
Earth-observation (EO) data to over 600 organizations in the country.
"Over the last three years we have identified key applications of RADARSAT-1
in China. These include ice monitoring, multi-temporal rice crop monitoring,
urban planning and land use as well as flood monitoring and disaster relief.
We look forward to further developing these areas with RSI" said Professor
Li, Deputy General Director of RSGS.

Developed and operated by the Canadian Space Agency, RADARSAT-1 is Canada's
first Earth-observation satellite. RADARSAT-1 is providing clients
worldwide with timely and critical data to assist disaster relief and
emergency rescue efforts and the information required by commercial and
scientific users in the fields of agriculture, cartography, hydrology,
forestry, oceanography, ice studies and coastal monitoring. RADARSAT-2,
currently under construction by MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates, is
scheduled for launch in 2003. RSI has obtained the RADARSAT-2 exclusive
distribution rights for non-US markets, and ORBIMAGE continues as US
distributor.
