Spatial and Tech Soft Announce
OEM Visualization Partnership; ACIS/HOOPS OEM Integration and Joint
Reseller Agreement
BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 27, 2001--Spatial, a market-leading provider of
world-class 3D software components, and Tech Soft America, a provider of premier graphics
technology, announced today that they have agreed to enter into an OEM visualization technology
partnership and joint reseller agreement.
Spatial recognizes the diverse visualization requirements of its large, global customer base and
through the development of partnerships it can offer a more robust set of visualization components. To
enable Spatial to address these varied needs and provide its OEM customers with advanced graphics
functionality, Spatial and TSA have developed a visualization partnership to focus on the expanding 3D
visualization needs of the market place.
"TSA offers a rich set of visualization component solutions that can manage large datasets, and
provides a flexible application framework that simplifies the design and development of graphics
applications," said Michael Payne, Chief Executive Officer, Spatial. "It is through partnerships like this
that we are able to provide our OEMs with a broader selection of advanced software components that
help them to successfully meet the broadening needs of both the engineering and consumer
marketplace."
Evolving from an existing integration between TSA's HOOPS 3D Application Framework and
Spatial's ACIS 3D Geometric Modeler, Spatial will OEM the ACIS/HOOPS integration to offer
ACIS licensees an alternative visualization component. The ACIS/HOOPS integration provides a
flexible suite of modular application components that provide higher-level visualization functionality.
The joint reseller agreement allows Spatial to resell TSA's HOOPS 3D Application Framework,
HOOPS Stream Toolkit, and HOOPS 3D Graphics System as standalone solutions to its expanding
OEM customer base. Likewise, TSA will have rights to resell the ACIS 3D Geometric Modeler, the
ACIS/HOOPS integration and related ACIS translators.
"Like ACIS, the HOOPS 3D Application Framework has been adopted by numerous leading
CAD/CAM/CAE developers. By offering an ACIS/HOOPS integration of this advanced visualization
technology directly to the ACIS community, Spatial is reaffirming its commitment to providing
best-of-breed software components," said Ron Fritz, Managing Partner, Tech Soft America. "As a
long-time ACIS licensee, we are pleased to have formed an OEM partnership with Spatial and
appreciate the opportunity it offers both companies."
Dr. Ken Versprille, Research Director, Design Creation and Validation, D. H. Brown Associates,
Inc., remarked, "More and more OEMs in the CAD/CAM/CAE industry are selecting pre-designed
software components, like ACIS/HOOPS, since they enable them to add sophisticated functionality to
their end user products faster. Given the diverse set of visualization requirements in the industry today,
Spatial must be congratulated for making strategic changes with the proven HOOPS technology that
focus on the needs of their expanding customer base."
"As a long time user of ACIS and a new licensee of HOOPS, we are delighted to see these two
outstanding products bundled together. We believe this relationship will be an excellent benefit to
ACIS customers looking for advanced graphics capabilities and will help spread the word about
HOOPS, which we feel is a truly best-in-class graphics development tool," remarked Robert W.
Bean, P.E., President and CEO, CADKEY Corporation.
Rob Berry, Director of CAD, IMSI, and Chairman, OPENDWG Alliance, commented, "IMSI has
relied on the ACIS 3D Modeling Kernel for robust modeling within TurboCAD products for a number
of years. We have also recently had an opportunity to learn about the capabilities of the HOOPS 3D
Application Framework, and are particularly excited to learn about the integration of these two leading
components. I believe the union will be a welcome solution for the ACIS user base."
"The 3D capabilities of our FEVA FEA product have been significantly enhanced by the use of the
HOOPS 3D Application Framework and the ACIS 3D Modeling Kernel. Both have proven to be
robust tools for the rapid development of advanced applications and have allowed us, as an
organization, to focus our engineering resources on our true value-add. Based on our experiences with
HOOPS, we believe this new bundle will provide ACIS users with an extremely powerful visualization
complement to ACIS," said Ted Lin, Vice President of Engineering, PVM Corp.
"The ACIS 3D Modeler provides MAGMASOFT customers with world-class modeling
capabilities and has convinced our company that component technology offers tremendous benefits,"
said Herbert Vonhoegen, Director of Engineering, Magma GmbH. "Recently, we've been actively
evaluating HOOPS with ACIS and are delighted to find out that these two powerful tools will be
pre-integrated and available as a single product bundle."
TSA's HOOPS 3D Application Framework (HOOPS/3dAF) technology consists of a highly
optimised suite of software components integrated into a flexible application framework. With
HOOPS/3dAF as their graphics infrastructure, software developers can more rapidly build design,
visualization, and engineering applications for Windows, Unix, Linux and the Web. They save
development time and resources, while focusing on their core competencies and value add.
HOOPS/3dAF is the core graphics software component in over 100 commercial applications from
many of the leaders in CAD/CAM/CAE, scientific visualization, business graphics, and earth sciences
software. In addition, HOOPS is used in hundreds of personal use and internally deployed
applications.
