Successful Government Seminar Series Held by InfoTech Enterprises Europe

Crime mapping analysis, social exclusion, school catchment analysis and local land and property gazetteers were just some of the topics covered in the latest InfoTech Europe Government Seminar. The day focussed on the new challenges that face local government organisations and education authorities and was attended by over thirty councils from all over Britain. Experienced local councillors and consultants covered many current issues, government policies and new legislation. Dave Yarwood from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea introduced guests to using geographical information systems; Spencer Chainey, Head of Consultancy at InfoTech Europe discussed crime mapping; Peter Hanson, Senior Consultant presented information on school catchment and network analysis; and Geoffrey Kendall outlined the various e-solutions available to local government bodies.

Deborah Higgins from Caerphilly County Borough Council presented the positive aspects of implementing a local land and property gazetteer, how the Data Protection Act will require councils to be more consistent with data maintenance and data security and how a property gazetteer can assist with this. She also discussed how a gazetteer can be used to reduce staff workloads and pinpoint fraudulent benefit claims.

Felicity Holland from the London Borough of Harrow presented information on crime mapping analysis. She gave some practical advice about problems that can occur when creating data sharing partnerships. With the help of Spencer Chainey, she looked at different methodologies for determining the timing of various crimes, and how to produce a series of thematic maps that show ‘in- motion’ hotspots for different crimes, when in the day they occurred and how they relate to school end or pub closing times.

InfoTech Enterprises Europe is the new name for Dataview Solutions. The name change was prompted by the expansion of our GIS capabilities and the introduction of both offshore and onshore general IT services.
