Atlanta, Georgia, USA - ERDAS®, Inc. announces the upcoming release of IMAGINE
OrthoBASE Pro™, a new ERDAS IMAGINE® add-on module which automatically
extracts DTMs (Digital Terrain Model) from imagery.
IMAGINE OrthoBASE Pro is an upgrade to IMAGINE OrthoBASE™, a powerful digital
photogrammetry system that reduces the time and costs associated with creating ortho-
accurate images for a GIS through increased automation and innovative block
triangulation techniques.
The addition of IMAGINE OrthoBASE Pro is a major enhancement to the ERDAS
IMAGINE suite, explains ERDAS President Lawrie E. Jordan, III.
“With the inclusion of IMAGINE OrthoBASE Pro to the ERDAS IMAGINE suite,
ERDAS has put together a total solution that will create map accurate information using
3D geographic imaging techniques,” said Jordan. “The beauty of OrthoBASE Pro is that
it is an easy-to-use, linear workflow that guides the user as the imagery is transformed
into highly accurate 3D geographic information.”
IMAGINE OrthoBASE Pro uses sophisticated and rigorous artificial intelligence
techniques to automatically extract elevation information from imagery. Digital image
matching techniques, commonly used for machine vision, automatically identify and
match image points that appear on overlapping areas of a stereo pair (i.e., left and right
overlapping images).
Once the correct image positions have been identified and matched, the elevation for the
ground point is automatically computed. All of the extracted 3D ground points are
subsequently used to create a digital terrain model.
Additionally, IMAGINE OrthoBASE Pro provides the following capabilities:
Automatically saves extracted DTMs as raster digital elevation models (DEMs),
triangulated irregular networks (TINs), ESRI 3D Shapefiles or ASCII output files.
Automatically extracts, subsets and mosaics individual DTMs for an entire project
area, encompassing hundreds of images with one click.
Supports the extraction of DTMS from aerial photography, satellite imagery
(IKONOS, SPOT, IRS-1C), digital, video and 35 mm camera imagery.
Digitizes specific geographic areas to define output DTM extent. Similarly, specific
geographic areas (i.e., water bodies) can be defined on the imagery and excluded from
automatic DTM extraction.
Computes detailed accuracy information that is stored in an output DTM accuracy
report.
In addition to providing a total solution for creating map accurate information using 3D
geographic imaging techniques, IMAGINE OrthoBASE Pro is affordable, accurate,
flexible, scaleable and easy to use.

ERDAS pioneered the first PC-based geographic image processing system and for over 23 years has set the standard
for multi-functional geographic imaging systems. Today, more than 55,000 installations of ERDAS software are
helping organizations around the world to visualize, manipulate, analyze, measure, and integrate any type of
geographic imagery and geospatial information into a two-dimensional and three-dimensional environment.
