MAPCITI, WEB-BASED MAPPING SERVICE FOR CITIES AND TOWNS, FIRST TO OFFER LARGE-FORMAT PRINTING

-MapCiti(tm) Reduces Administration Costs, Increases Ease of Access-

BOSTON, Mass.-July 2, 2001- Syncline, Inc., today announced the addition of large-format printing capabilities, as well as other enhancements, to MapCiti(tm), its fully automated Web-based mapping service for cities, towns, and government agencies. MapCiti(tm) is the first hosted mapping service to offer large-format, high-resolution printing capabilities on the Web, giving municipalities the functionality they need to move their entire mapping operations online.

In addition, the newest version of MapCiti(tm) lets users:

* Publish data to the Geography Network, a global community of geographic information users and providers sponsored by ESRI.

* Add digital images, such as satellite orthographic photos, to maps for richer views of municipal information.

* Build thematic maps by shading areas and highlighting features based on specific criteria, such as zoning, land use, and political districts.

Full-Size, Dynamically-Generated Maps

MapCiti(tm)'s new large-format, high-resolution vector printing capability gives users the ability to print out detailed maps in the 33-by-44-inch ("E4") size many favor, using the Adobe PDF format. In the past, static images of map sub-sections were used to make copies on a plotter. As a result, maps tended to be out-of-date, limited to a set area, and costly to print. With MapCiti(tm), everyone from the town planner to the local builder can easily print up-to-date maps.

"With the addition of large-format printing and other new functionality, we've given our customers what they need to put their whole mapping function on the Web," said Matthew M. Gentile, CEO and president of Syncline. "Simply automating the printing function has immediate and direct benefits: the maps are easier to manage and maintain, accessing them is more convenient and, at the same time, government can be more responsive to the growing demand for e-government services."

More About MapCiti(tm)

MapCiti(tm) enables municipalities and government agencies to easily share geographic information systems (GIS) data - such as property ownership, school districts, and zoning - internally, and with the public, using a browser-based interface. The service, which is being adopted by a number of major metropolitan areas, in addition to smaller cities and towns, is available by subscription.
