-Service to Enable One-Click Uploads of Maps and Related Data-
BOSTON, Mass., and REDLANDS, Calif.-July 9, 2001- ESRI and Syncline, Inc.
today announced Syncline's hosted service for publishing geographic maps and
data directly to ESRI's Geography Network. The Geography Network is the
leading online source for the sharing of geographic information between data
providers, service providers, and users around the world. Syncline's MapCiti
GN(tm) lets subscribers, with just one click, make their information
available to a global community of viewers.
"Our users are able to search and find the largest collection of geographic
information and services in the world through the Geography Network portal,"
said Jack Dangermond, president, ESRI. "Syncline's new service makes it
easier and more affordable for organizations to participate, making the
Geography Network's collection of information that much more comprehensive."
"Enabling our subscribers to easily publish to the Geography Network gives
them access to a vast audience of viewers, as well as potential customers,"
said Matthew M. Gentile, president and CEO of Syncline. "It also lets
subscribers give their customers the ability to combine geographic data from
a number of Geography Network sources."
About MapCiti GN(tm)
MapCiti GN(tm) is a hosted Web-based mapping service for organizations
needing a simple, reliable, and cost-effective way to share and manage maps,
images, and data on the Geography Network. MapCiti GN(tm) provides
everything required for publishing and managing spatial data on the
Geography Network.
Syncline offers two MapCiti GN(tm) packages. Both enable subscribers to
instantly publish maps, images, and data to the Geography Network, either in
a shared environment or as a fee-based service.
The services are as follows:
* Image Services Package - a simple, cost-effective way to manage both large
and
small volumes of imagery on the Geography Network. The service's Web-based
image-management system allows subscribers to instantly update images and
associated meta-data. Optional capabilities are available for creating
customized images using annotation and publishing features.
* Data Services Package - provides everything an organization needs to
publish and manage maps, data, and images on the Geography Network. In
addition, the Map Services Package allows users to download selective data
layers into desktop GIS systems.
Pricing is based on storage and download volume and starts at $1000 per
month.
The Geography Network (www.geographynetwork.com ) is a framework for building
and launching a data distribution mechanism over the Internet. Built using
ArcIMS, ESRI's Internet mapping software for publishing geographic content,
the Geography Network is an open environment for hosting and viewing
geographic data, maps, and services. It is an Internet marketplace where
users can search and preview information and includes a commerce engine that
manages subscription access. As industry moves closer to the integration
between the Internet and the desktop, the Geography Network provides a
direct link between the user and service providers offering maps,
value-added data, and industry-specific applications and solutions.
ESRI, the world's leading provider of GIS software products, builds
technology to support this commercial data distribution, as well as
maintains the Geography Network portal, meta-data catalog, digital
marketplace, and search engine.
Syncline's software and services enable customers to visualize and analyze
spatial data using maps they create, share, and manage via the Internet. The
company's offerings are MapCiti(tm), a hosted, automated Web-based mapping
service designed specifically for government and utilities; MapAnalyst(tm),
a data management platform that unifies disparate data streams into
"intelligent maps"; and an Enterprise Development group that designs,
develops, and deploys customer spatial applications. Syncline's partners are
ESRI, GDT, Oracle, and Sun Microsystems. Clients include Verizon, Telephia,
USGS, the City of San Antonio, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
