Navigation Technologies releases NAVTECH NAVSTREETS v 2.1 New release designed to streamline application development cycle

Rosemont, IL (May 31, 2001) - Navigation Technologies, the leading global provider of navigable map databases and street network data for North America and Europe, announced today the availability of NAVTECH( NAVSTREETS( version 2.1. Along with increased coverage of road-related data, this latest upgrade now offers significant enhancements to support application development including the ability to acquire individual state clips of street-network data, to display country and state boundaries and to more efficiently query streets and address information and merge datasets.

Available in MapInfo Tab files and ArcView Shapefiles, Navigation Technologies' NAVSTREETS data is a detailed, digital representation of the road networks in both North America and Europe that provides superior ground truth with its unparalleled accuracy and depth of attributes. A street network data accurate to within 15 meters for both sides of the street, and includes 41 layers of mapping information and 65 navigable attributes, NAVSTREETS data provides 10,022,931 total links; 1,870,855 total miles; 307,550 turn restrictions; 102,971 lane dividers and 1,329,194 one-ways. It also includes tollbooths, postal names, 911 addressing, vanity addresses and over 750,000 POIs.

NAVSTREETS 2.1 both continues the tradition of unrivalled street-network detail and provides enhanced functionality to enable clients - particularly technical developers - to more effectively exploit this comprehensive data. Two new administrative boundary layers - one for country and one for state - have been added, which allow users for the first time to view borders between countries, such as North America and Canada, and individual states. By displaying such boundaries, users can now construct country and state level administrative area polygons. Another feature - the "Streets layer" and the "Address layer" have been merged into one layer called "Streets", simplifying geocoding and enabling developers to optimize query applications and to create more robust route calculation functionality.

The most significant improvement for application evolvement in 2.1 is that developers can now receive street network data for individual states. In the past where several states were bundled together to deliver regional road data, users can now select datasets of specific states, eliminating the need to customize a regional database to create a smaller dataset. Along with the ability to purchase state-specific data, an "Aligned Node" attribute has been added to the Z-levels layer, which allows developers to more easily merge state datasets together.

Randy Peterson, Navigation Technologies' Vice President and General Manager of Business Solutions said, "We are committed to continually looking for ways to improve the functionality of our data to support developers in their new applications. The release of NAVSTREETS 2.1 is a significant step in meeting that objective through the availability of customized street-network data at the state level. For instance, customers can now order just the dataset from the particular state they require, or also have the ability to merge state datasets together to create a seamless view of a larger region."

In addition to the enhanced functionality of 2.1, Navigation Technologies has continued to populate the NAVSTREETS product with ground truth data to increase the depth of coverage of road-related features. With NAVSTREETS 2.1, over 20,000 new miles of roads have been collected, along with over 200,000 new links, nearly 46,000 one-way links, over 4000 new turn restrictions and over 1750 new lane dividers. In addition, customers can choose from three product levels. NAVSTREETS Base provides map display and automatic vehicle location; NAVSTREETS Standard provides all features in the Base product plus geocoding capabilities; and NAVSTREETS Premium provides all features in the Standard product plus routing capabilities.

NAVSTREETS data provides a complete, up-to-date real world representation of the street network. European coverage includes 100 percent coverage of the main arterial roads within Europe's major highway networks including detailed coverage in over 320 cities in the countries of Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Sweden. The data provides entire country detailed coverage for the United Kingdom and Benelux. In addition to 100 percent coverage of main roadways throughout North America, NAVSTREETS data provides detailed-level coverage for every road in areas in which more than 57 percent of the North American continent's population live and work. NAVSTREETS data contains navigable driving attributes for each roadway segment as well as addresses, and points of interest in 40 categories such as restaurants, hotels, convention centers, and many more. NAVTECH map information is road tested for accuracy by a field force that literally drives millions of miles annually to verify as well as update the information. Revisions are incorporated into the NAVTECH database, which is updated and released to subscribers on a periodic basis.
