Laser-Scan and Earth Resource Mapping enter strategic alliance

url(s): http://www.ermapper.com
London and Cambridge, March 28, 2001 - Cambridge based Laser-Scan Ltd has added its weight of approval to the rise of ECW image compression as the industry standard.

Earth Resource Mapping and Laser-Scan are pleased to announce that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed, which will allow both organizations to provide sophisticated software integration to meet the needs of the converging futures of the GIS and Remote Sensing industries.

Laser-Scan is an industry leader in object-oriented software for geospatial applications and the new strategic alliance allows the incorporation of the groundbreaking abilities of ECW (Enhanced Compressed Wavelet) compression into Laser-Scan’s GOTHIC family of products.

The agreement allows both organizations to develop a range of services that combine technologies and experience, providing the GIS and Remote Sensing market places with a comprehensive set of imaging solutions.

The patented ECW compression technology, is fast becoming the spatial industry standard for wavelet-based imagery compression. ECW provides up to 100:1 multiband compression at speeds up to 50% faster than its closest competitor. The ECW format also provides viewing that is 300% faster than any other wavelet-based compression format, thus adding the ability to efficiently deal with gigabyte sized image files.
