Intergraph Selected by LGCSB in Ireland for National Internet GIS Initiative

GeoMedia WebMap top choice for Web-based GIS solution

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., May 29, 2001 - Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions today announced the Local Government Computer Services Board (LGCSB) in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, has chosen GeoMedia WebMap for its National Internet GIS (IGIS) initiative after a comprehensive evaluation of Web-based GIS software from leading vendors. The Intergraph Ireland team demonstrated that the GeoMedia WebMap solution was the right choice to support the board's GIS requirements. The solution will benefit 30 local authorities within the Republic of Ireland including the city corporations of Dublin, Cork, Limerick, and Galway, and the rural local authorities of Meath, Kildare, Waterford, and Donegal County Councils.

The LGCSB is deploying Intergraph's GeoMedia technology in support of their national IT strategy. The board delivers solutions to a broad range of local government clients, from administrators to engineering staff to planning staff, using a wide spectrum of technologies. GeoMedia WebMap will link with Microsoft SQL Server to integrate and publish numerous disparate data sources such as MapInfo, AutoCAD, ArcView, MicroStation, and FRAMME, bringing the data into a single application. GeoMedia WebMap is the only Web-based map visualization tool that links real time to one or more GIS data warehouses.

One way GeoMedia WebMap will be applied is to enable local authorities to inform residents along a street or road where maintenance work is scheduled on the local water network. Standard spatial queries will permit the authorities to query the Geo Directory national address file located in Microsoft SQL Server and water network data maintained in MapInfo format and view the results quickly in GeoMedia WebMap. They can then produce and send a letter to residents effected by the maintenance work to let them know the start date of the work and apologize for the inconvenience.

"Based on our evaluation of GIS vendor software, Intergraph's GeoMedia WebMap technology provided a very open platform, including flexible data integration and customization tools for the variety of disciplines required by the board," said Edmund Dunlop, assistant director with the Local Government Computer Services Board.

The GeoMedia WebMap solution also supports the Irish Government's "E-Government" initiative and will enable the LGCSB to provide the general public with unprecedented access to geographic information such as planning, road, and environmental spatial data over the Internet. In today's booming Irish economy, people are often too busy to visit local authority offices during regular hours. Web dissemination makes local government more accessible.

"We're very pleased to be the chosen solutions provider for this important national initiative," said Bob Stuart, general manager of Intergraph Ireland. "The Local Government Computer Services Board has a cohesive IT strategy that benefits both local authorities and the public to effectively open data sharing and communication for improved government services."

With its headquarters in Dublin, Ireland, the LGCSB is a public sector organization closely aligned with local government in Ireland. It provides local authorities with the best possible solutions to meet all their information and communication technology needs. This includes helping local authorities develop and implement appropriate strategies and solutions to underpin their business goals. For more information about the LGCSB, visit www.lgcsb.ie.
