WalkAbout Names Grainger CEO

Singer Island, FL --WalkAbout Computers Inc. here today announced the appointment of two key executive officers who will be charged with expanding the company’s product lines and moving the organization into new markets in the near future. WalkAbout is a major supplier of ruggedized, mobile wireless computers serving a wide variety of markets worldwide.

David W. Grainger, an electronic engineering graduate of Algonquin Institute with nearly thirty years of experience in the computer industry, has been named WalkAbout’s Chief Executive Officer. He will be involved with all aspects of WalkAbout’s business both domestically and internationally. Before joining WalkAbout,

Mr. Grainger was a Group Vice President of Picturetel Corporation where he was responsible for the development and launching of several innovative video products.

An industry pioneer, Mr. Grainger also held executive positions with Xerox Corporation where he was responsible for worldwide customer services strategies. Earlier, he had spent over 20 years with Digital Equipment Corporation serving as Vice President of Corporate Customer Services and in a number of other executive positions in sales, marketing and operations.

In addition to the nomination of Mr. Grainger as CEO, the company named Mr. Leo Shpiz, another computer industry veteran, to the post of Director of Product Management. He will be reporting directly to Mr. Grainger and will be responsible for product development and marketing decisions.

Mr. Shpiz is a graduate of Brooklyn College and holds a MS in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has spent nearly 30 years in the computer industry holding engineering positions with General Electric and Digital Equipment Corporation. In addition, he was CEO of Pencept, a pioneering pen computer company and has served as a hardware and software consultant for pen computer companies.
