MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and VIENNA, Austria, May 30, 2001--Actional(TM) Corporation, the leading provider of adaptive integration solutions for e-Business, and mobilkom austria, Austria's largest mobile operator, have announced a deal to use Actional Control Broker (ACB) for the integration of SAP, its geo-information system (GIS) and WAP telephones. The deal will give field engineers direct access to current information about system faults, with the ability to report or be informed of faults instantly. It will also give the central maintenance team full visibility of its engineers' locations and activities, as well as the state of the network, cutting the time between a fault's occurrence and its repair.

The solution allows engineers to log the results of their actions via a WAP device, with these results updated automatically in the SAP back end as well as the GIS. Actional's Control Broker integration software ensures that mobilkom austria's systems are constantly up-to-date, with details about the status of all individual transmission stations accessible from any location at any time. Every piece of equipment throughout the network carries an inventory number, administered by the SAP system. This allows hardware to be located and its use to be coordinated more simply.

"Using Actional Control Broker technology, we only needed a month and a half to put in place all the necessary connections rather than the estimated five months for manual programming," said Josef Novak, manager of SAP Expertise Center at mobilkom austria. "Actional Control Broker can integrate almost endless varieties of applications, and ensure unlimited data transfer rates. Actional's lean, standards-based architecture makes it especially high-performing and universally deployable."

mobilkom austria is using ACB for an additional integration project to web-enable its SAP H/R Module. This allows the company to rationalize and accelerate internal processes involving the company's staff. For example, the new system will the process needed to ensure that new employees are fully equipped from the first day they start work. This includes mobile and fixed-line telephones with personalized direct line, electronic fax access and e-mail address, as well as a PC with all the specific applications needed by the employee before work can begin.

With this in place, transparency about the location of resources across the enterprise will increase significantly, with the Actional solution proving itself as a valuable and comprehensive internal cost control tool. This particular solution is scheduled to go live on July 1, 2001.

"Especially in the current uncertain climate, companies are looking to gain maximum advantage from systems they already have in place," said Paul Brennan, VP and general manager at Actional in Europe. "mobilkom austria provides an excellent and forward-thinking example of how much can be gained from doing this."

Actional delivers high-performance, adaptive integration that works with existing systems and applications, without adding new middleware and software modification. Actional Control Broker platform enables deployment of enterprise services across hundreds of applications with broad support for industry standards such as XML, Java, EJB, COM and CORBA.

The Actional Control Broker product line was designed to provide the utmost in performance, scalability, reliability and security. Representing an innovative approach to adaptive e-business application integration, Actional Control Broker provides the ability to control and access business services from any enterprise application.

Actional is the market leader in adaptive integration architectures.
