INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - May 29, 2001, Analytical Surveys, Inc. (ASI) (Nasdaq: ANLT) a premier provider of technology-enabled solutions and expert services for geospatial data management, announced today that Houston, TX-based Reliant Energy (NYSE: REI) has contracted with the Company for geospatial data maintenance services. Under this contract, ASI is developing and deploying a customized data maintenance solution for Reliant Energy's geospatial information system.

According to Jim Cox, Reliant Energy's Manager of GIS Data Management, ASI will be updating gas and electrical facilities data. Cox said, "the goal is to provide crucial information support to a broad base of users" including design engineering, planning, dispatch and line location personnel. "As a result of this project," Cox stated, "up-to-date geospatial information will be available on a consistent, company-wide basis." Cox went on to say the project is "a win-win situation. Reliant Energy will benefit from having a rich, robust and corporate-wide information resource and ASI will be able to demonstrate its proven process for data maintenance."

The Reliant Energy contract will be performed under the direction of ASI's Data Solutions organization. In recognizing and anticipating the changing needs of the utility marketplace, ASI's maintenance program is a logical extension and strong complement to the company's data conversion and related services. ASI's Senior Vice President - Data Solutions, Don Fryhover said, "This program protects Reliant Energy's original data investments by adding value to existing data sets." In delivering maintenance services, Fryhover continued, "flexibility is key" and he notes that, "ASI can do the work at the customer's facility or at one of ASI's offices." The value of outsourcing maintenance Fryhover explains, "is eliminating backlog in a short time frame so the most up-to-date data is available, and can be leveraged for better decision making."

Reliant Energy (NYSE: REI) based in Houston, Texas, is an international energy services and energy delivery company with approximately $38 billion in annual revenue and assets totaling more than $30 billion.
