Markham, ON May 31, 2001 - Spatial solutions leader, DMTI Spatial, is once again leading the way in making an
unprecedented offer to bring affordable mapping to the Canadian provincial government sector. Following on the success of
its Canadian federal government CanGMS program, DMTI Spatial is proud to announce the launch of ProvGMS, the
provincial equivalent. Both initiatives have been innovatively designed to ensure that governments can capitalize fully on the
benefits associated with the DMTI Spatial CanMap® Streetfile.
With the Provincial Government Mapping Solution (ProvGMS), DMTI Spatial has taken a leadership role by providing
provincial departments and agencies with access to DMTI Spatial's digital CanMap Streetfile at prices unheard of within the
field of GIS. The program encourages enterprise wide and Internet usage of the file. "Virtually any restriction associated
with the use of a mapping file has been removed in our effort to ensure that the provinces can work with an unencumbered
product", said Don DeGenova, Director, Business Development and Strategic Alliances, DMTI Spatial.
By capitalizing on the strengths of GIS, provincial departments can effectively enhance services to citizens and improve
operational efficiencies in areas such as: disease control & preparedness, election preparation, transportation &
environmental planning; resources management, emergency response, school bus and waste management route planning,
and public facility management.
"This affordable mapping program helps government to focus their efforts on providing essential services, and not in tying
up resources in the development of mapping data. Since the Ice Storm in 1998, DMTI Spatial has worked closely with the
Provincial and Federal Governments, and is proud to be part of their mission critical operations", said John Fisher,
President and CEO of DMTI Spatial.
CanMap, the company's flagship product, is a digital street file based on Natural Resource Canada's National
Topographical Data Base (the NTDB). Among the ever increasing Points of Interest (POI) layers is complete coverage for:
police stations; elementary, high schools, universities and colleges; hospitals, health care facilities and clinics; major
tourist attractions; etc. CanMap is updated on a quarterly basis.
CanMap is widely used by leading Canadian and US corporations in the transportation, telecommunications, utilities, and
Internet industries. CanMap is also deployed in many Federal and Provincial Government departments including Public
Works and Services Canada, Health Canada, Industry Canada, Transport Canada, Department of National Defence etc.
