FORT COLLINS, Colo., Oct 31, 2001 - Today's release of the new MediaMapper 4.0 again establishes Red Hen
Systems, Inc. as the innovative leader in cutting-edge multimedia mapping systems.
The company's technologies bring affordable GPS-referenced video and digital still photo mapping into the hands of "geo-photographers"
and "photo-geographers" in a wide range of industries. MediaMapper's ability to automate spatial database creation, as well as link
unlimited multimedia files or real time video to map locations, is a valuable asset for high-end geographic information system (GIS) users.
For those just getting started, the software's ease of use and new wizard-driven digital still photo mapping capability make the move to
"spatial multimedia" a smooth transition.
MediaMapper 4.0 integrates a long list of requested features developed through months of consultation with users, insuring the product
meets their needs and expectations based on several use models. According to Andrew Degemann, company sales director: "We asked
our users for suggestions on how we could improve MediaMapper, and 4.0 is a comprehensive response to the needs they expressed. Our
new MediaMapper offers the solutions our users want. It's easier to use, and gives powerful results."
Among the enhancements are improved support for digital video capture, which Michael Dillon, vice president of engineering, explains: "has
been a big request for our high-end users. They'll now have the flexibility and power they've been wanting." Those high-end users will also
enjoy improved handling of Shapefile and MIF export, as well as the option to send the interactive media map directly to MapInfo
Professional or ESRI's ArcView. The program also supports GPS data from a wider range of GPS receivers, even to include the Casio GPS
watch.
Especially exciting are new features in HTML export. MediaMapper users have always enjoyed sharing their interactive media maps with
others via HTML exports they upload on the web or distribute on CD. Dillon emphasizes the new HTML export capabilities will have
wide-ranging appeal. "We've made vast improvements to our HTML export. Our users can now create entire web sites with amazing
content and style." Users can fully customize HTML exports with stylesheets and templates for linked image and data display.
Additionally, a dynamic pointer now shows the map location when users hover over thumbnails in a new "media browser" frame.
Several key features in 4.0 were developed primarily for the Department of Defense, including CADRG/ADRG map import, Military Grid
Reference System (MGRS) support, and a utility for creating new map features based on azimuths from known locations. However, the
system is currently used in many industries where the ability to integrate video or pictures with maps is a critical information need.
MediaMapper supports users in the USDA Forest Service, DoD, FEMA, state DOT and weed control agencies, utilities, and many other
GIS users in both the public and private sectors.
